This is a female tilapia, about 20cm long, and it has a hole in its gill cover. Apparently the males attacked her for not playing along. Anyone seen anything like this? The gill cover was mushy for a long time, and now we have a hole..

An expert told me: "Possibly the gill cover was damaged by the males and then bacteria infected the wound and caused the lesion to fester right through the cover!"

Looks to me like someone shot her using a revolver or something..

weird huh?

i do know that fish will pick, and nip at spots on other fish, we encounter sore tails and saddle backs on minnows, and the other fish will tear them apart.

Holy Tilapia Bassman...
No idea tbh, I have all catfish in my tank and recently one of them died, looked like something had literally sucked the face off him.
Not a pleasant sight, some pics on the last page of my thread.
Never did find out what happened.
