Hi Jamey

My research states that the cats like water between 15 - 26 degrees but will survive 5 - 30. They are nocturnal so you won't see them much and I think I have some from an earlier purchase hiding in the main FT.

Hmm my FT is basicly pitch dark all the time i wonder if they would know its daylight outside :P

the light that comes through the feeder pipe will resemble the moon :P

I would not know the answer to that, I am not expert.
I got some because I thought that:
They would assist in keeping bottom of tank clean
Interesting for visitors
Believe good eating
The info I have says they take 5 years to reach maturity, minimum legal size is 30cm and you can only take them from waters within the Wimmera Basin.
I put some (10) in when I got my trout in may and I haven't seen them since but I am hopeful that a couple may be still hiding in the main FT. I will keep you posted on the latest additions progress over coming months.
As always, if anyone knows additional information, please feel free to add/correct that above

Who said "cats" were nocturnal... well catfish anyway...

When I had mine they seemed both active... and fed... during daylight....

I have 4 Catfish in with (now) 40 Silver Perch - the Catfish are far more adventurous than the Silvers. As soon as feed is thrown into Fish Tank - the Catfish are there skimming the feed as it hits the bottom of the tank. The Silvers only feed when the FT lid is closed and mostly at night.
One of the Catfish entered my AP System on May 20, 2009 - 3 more were added in Feb 2010 - the 3 added in 2010 caught up size wise very quickly to the slow growing original.
Best wishes - Colin.

Thanks Colin,
A few of my cats are eating in the day time but I would only see about 1/4 of them at any time. The others are keeping a low profile. :shifty:

Water temp is staying around 20 degrees with the current temps. It doesn't seem to be dropping back as low a it has previously.

The new additional are loving it and the trout are all feeding hard but not sure if the water will stay cool enough for them next time the weather heats up.

Hi All,
Having a few issues last day or so with 2 unaccounted for deaths so far and 1 in ICU (soon to be 3 I am guessing) :support:
All the deaths have been Australian Bass with the symptoms been laying on their side and swimming away only when touched then going staight back into the previous position. Pictures below. I have also noticed some spots on a number of the silvers and the catfish  (again pic of catfish below, though not very clear) I have done a water test this evening and it all seems Ok with the following readings:
Water Temp - 16.2 degrees
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 40
PH - 7.5
Any idea's hints from you all are welcome. I would like to stop any unnesarcary deaths :(
