Supposed to get to 7F (-14c) tonight! Tuesday night - 5-10" more snow.

At least I've got my indoor system to play with!

So, did we answer Bullwinklell's question?

I think so.

I think the answer was "Yeah, you should do whatever wacky experiment you are thinking about, it should be ok."

That's what I heard anyway :)

What temperature do the fish live in when the water is frozen over? I don't understand nature. I cant see how anything can live in that.

luckily the white froth on top actually tends to be a bit of an insulator and generally keeps the poor fish from freezing solid.

I wouldn't want to live in water that cold myself though. Was painful enough dipping catfish fingerlings out of 32 F water last winter.

oh wait topic was will the bacteria survive constantly submerged.
Yes, as long as it all stays well aerated and flowing. As in don't let it get too gunked up.

Hmm, maybe this can be one of those things you learn. My vague understanding of it is that ice floats, warmer water (39F?) remains below. The deepest part of my pond is 15 ft & I'm guessing water is trickling in, bringing air in & moving things around. Fish aren't eating, plants aren't growing. Everything is just waiting......

Meanwhile, when it gets really cold the ice starts cracking. Makes a really loud bang that can throw you off. All the dogs start barking.

My fish are bigger than the Australian herring I have in the freezer. Does that mean I can eat them now.

Its interesting to note, they havnt really gained much length of late, but are getting thicker and "taller". The now have about a 3:1 ration length:height

They look delicious.

If you had a second tank, you could grade them and you would see the small ones catch up in a matter of a couple of weeks. I reckon I have been grading mine on average once a month to keep like sizes together. Once they reach 100-150mm I stop grading and they go to the ponds for growout

Anyone have a low cost house they want me to live in? After watching me wash gravel for a bit the owners decided they want to renovate now that my 10 year lease is up :(

So now I want a new 10 year lease.

I've found a new home for my megga GB but now I need a home for Mrs. Bullwinkle.

Lots of tears in my not so irresponsible household as we were told we could rent here forever. We will have to find a new home for our many hundred kilograms of pet pork named Zander, 2 pet sheep, pet goat (see - "home made goat dung scoria"), 2 pet chickens, and a one legged, only two toed, one broken winged inspirational, motivational magpie named Spork who still finds the time to knock out amazing song, even though he's been crapped on in a big way by life and perhaps a car.

So, anyone got a home they dont need so much? Or some cardboard boxes and a shopping trolley. I have some old SCUBA gear, so I would be willing to settle for a large FT.

Did I mention I need a shed to hold a pottery?

Bullwinkle, I liked your fish video. Thats a mega bummer about the house. I have a house you could rent. Might be a long commute.
Try to focus on the posotive. You may end up at an even better place.

I have a shed with a bedroom/kitchen and toilet shower bathroom that could be available to the right people.
