Bugger!

I lost 2 nice males today from my wheelie bin... set up under the eaves of my home...

Goldies and Koi (coldwater fish) are doing fine as are two large Barra! (eating like crazy!)

Real hot over here in Perth , water temp was 30 deg ... Dissolved Oxygen was probably low ...

I had done a 50 % water change two days before ... But the tilapia are not as active as they usually are regards feeding time!

My tilapia fry ( 3 mm) and ( 1 cm) - separated by a net in a small wheelie bin , in a slightly shadier spot ( but water is still close to 30 deg C) seem to be eating like crazy ... the water comes alive at feeding time with their activity.

I guess I gotta find another location for the bins for summer months.

Maybe I can set up a shade sail.

Janet- I'm not going to be much help on using fish for the next few months. Found out that to raise Tilapia in NC, need to have a license, (free, but takes up to 60 days after inspection to have approved....) :? Since I haven't even started building my first system, I probably won't have it ready for Tilapia until 60 days after inspecting it after its built, after its ....
I'll probably start with Goldies.

No problem, Greenedo. Let us know when you're ready for fish, and maybe by then, someone will have the first generation of fry. Besides, you'd probably rather cycle your system with something cheap and easy to get--like goldies!

Well I had my first fry show up earlier in the week... :) What a great thing watching them swim around and get sucked in and out of the mothers mouth.. I was thinking that I;d have to do somethng to seperate them from the others but then the very next day they were all gone... :(

The other female has a mouth full of eggs and I think they might be about to hatch, so in the morning I'm going to stick her into a seperate tank..

More Tilapia receive government aid than any other fish. Notice how I put the political spin on the topic;)

Discuss............
