Caught a big mussel in one of the yabby nets in the local river. Question is , is it safe to put in my aquaponics system, and if not how do I quarantine it, so that I can. At the moment it is in my duckweed tub (not connected to any system) in the greenhouse.
What I mean is do they, can they carry any disease that could effect the fish????

they are filter feeders so should be fine filtering the fish tank water for feed... Disease risk?

He has slowly moved down to the middle of the tank where the outlet is, so I guess he aint dumb

Hi Mantis - I bought 10 Freshwater Mussels from Ausyfish about 8 months ago - they are in the fingerling tank where I used to keep my Yabbies. All good so far. Regards - Colin

I think Muzza has had mussels for a while now.

Is there any risk of their offspring growing in the pipework?
