My Dad was in national service at the tail end of Vietnam... he has always pushed us in the direction of the ADF... I probably won't do it as a career but as a an engineer in the defense force you are highly sort after plus it looks mighty good on a CV... I have to serve a minimum of 1 year plus the duration of my UNI course, which will make it about 5 years. After UNI I go to Melbourne for 17 weeks for basic/officers training, come out a pilot officer... They pay for UNI + 20-25K a year while you study, medical, dental, hospital, uniform, living allowance. It is almost too good to be true (famous last words)...

Same direction as my lad and same deal at Canberra/Duntroon.

You're dead right mate, get paid to do degree, no hex fees.... job afterwards for 5 years $40000+ starting salary....

AND all the BEST gear/equipment to train/play with

Go for it TC - the experience alone is worth it  , spent over 20 years in the defence forces, lots of overseas travel and even saw parts of Aus :)

I get you now... the parading and basic training will be a while away, I do it after my UNI course...

Until then I have enough time to setup a web based control and monitoring system.
