im guessing since my pump states that it can be dry mounted that i can install it outside my sump via the 20mm threaded inlet.

wondering if anyone has done this before??

Alot of pumps can be dry mounted. I have seen a friends aquarium use a pond pump outside the fishtank.

I have a laguna 16000 and you can remove the strainer to access the inlet.

Yeah if you can get to the inlet and securely attatch a hose to it, I reckon it would work outside the tank.

Would it have a heating/cooling problem ie running hot, if it was not in the water?

it came with 2 outlets Ends that i can put on it, the bit that holds the shaft in place

One has a Threaded socket the other is a flat faced screen.

iv got another sump now so i dont need too do what i was planning, was going to run a 40mm pipe from the sump to underneath the FT and plumb it up dry.

but i grabbed another barrel today, going to bury it under my FT and put the pump in there. that way the pump go's from pumping through 6 mt of PVC to about 2, less stress on the pump the longer it will last...
