You are not one of those people that analyse everything are you Redbeard? Could explain a few things in that brief sentence I guess. A nice little country pub, I wonder if it's still there.

I never knew 'The Valley' was so popular. Had many a beer there after cutting Chaff. Great Pub, just what a country pub should be.

Actually, I've been on a couple of pub crawls which included the Valley pub.....

Well I guess we've sucessfully hijacked this thread? :laughing3:

Back to topic: Joel, does the flood and drain really have the same disolved oxygen as the continuous flow? Or does the DO of the Flood Drain drop off a little between cycles?

Question re: constantly flooded beds and their standpipes. Do you just put a short standpipe in and let it overflow at a certain level, or are there also holes in the standpipe .
Been thinking about this, as my selfwatering tubs that I grow tomatoes in, in effect are constantly flooded. Most of the roots quickly grow down into the water reservoir where they are submerged for the life of the plant.

Richy Rich -

Having now run my systems on both constant F&D, timed F&D and siphons, I can say this. All three standpipe setups are the same, in so far as pipe diameter, height/water level, and drain hole. In essence, I use the same setup as the BYAP turnkey systems - a 40mm waste drain, with a 25-20mm reducer and 25mm standpipe with a small 7mm hole drilled in the reducer for extra slow drainage during pump of times when on timed F&D. The only difference between constant F&D and timed F&D is the presence of the timer. To turn it into a siphon, I simply added a capped 60mm bell with 'legs' cut into the bottom - and that's it. So - if I'm away from my system for a few days, I pull the bell out and leave it on constant flood. If my siphons are playing up - I pull them out and let it constant flood. If I wanna conserve power, I put the timer on. The constant is the standpipe - which always sits @ 25mm / 1" below the GB surface.

Make sense? Please - anyone pipe in with any differing input!

So many options from the one basic standpipe n drain!

BTx
