Good one Nocky, glad they all made it back ok. Like I said they are some of the bolters of last years spawn so hopefully you should get them to an edible size in a reasonable timeframe.

No worries TM, they made it through the night and were feeding yesterday evening as well, marron seem to have left them alone as well, if they get through the winter frosts I will probably do them as a 12 month around fish and have different ages in tank, I am sort of over trout, Trout are great but to much stress, we had a few 35c+ days in a row here and water temp was climbing so always worry about Trout kicking the bucket, after the red fin disaster I think these will be my last option other than moving to Albany
I read a few others are thinking of Red Fin (again) don't do it LOL, they will cause you heart ache

Wonders never cease. Fancy Nocky buying some SILVER PERCH.

I must buy some myself for the coming season. My cycle now Nocky, is going to be fingerling SP in the sump during summer, growing out ones in the FT, then in winter the SP from the sump will join whatever hasn't been eaten in the FT, and I will put 30 or 40 trout fingerlings in the sump, and eat them buy summer and the cycle goes again.

Yah - same as what I'm trying (but I've got two whole systems) - we'll see, I'm about to pull out the trout and get next years batch of SP, and move last years SP into the big tank...

Yep EB :dontknow:
Trout still going but will be out this weekend.
SP are doing great, TM said they wouldn't eat 5 mm pellets yet but they eat the Marron Pellets before they hit the deck, Marron pellets are slightly bigger than Laying pellets.
I throw in 3mm pellets for SP and then try and sneak in the Marron pellets but they still get them before the pellets hit the bottom :dontknow:
Nice plan Rick but I may sack the trout for a while and see how these go, have lost a few trout this year beacause of........*frack* nose why

when i first tried feeding my crayfish some sinking pellets the bluegill would eat them before they hit bottom.. i used a 3m piece of 1" pvc to get the food to the bottom in a few spots around the tank,,, seemed to work

Sounds good Keith, but the perch eat off the bottom also, trout coming out slowly, only a few left so will transfer Perch then.
Trout about 200-250gm smaller this year, didn't get the second lot in until late Mayish, have had a lot of deaths and less than 20 survived, NFI why, all is good with the water

SP are still stealing Marron Pellets :dontknow: Marron come out with pincers up and fight SP for pellets LOL

Question I have been pondering with EB, I have less than 10 trout left in separate tank and they are a pig to catch, they are onto the netting when I throw food in.
If I turn air off will trout come to surface for air? and slow a bit, not humane I know, but neither is stabbing their brains before gutting
I lost one yesterday with water at 23.5c so need to get them out without to much *frack* ing around
Thoughts please

The only way I got my trout out was to flood the growbeds and empty as much of the water into other containers as possible....

Other than that, what about bird netting made into a dragnet?

Or the fun way with a rod and a small hook with a bit of moist crushed pellet molded onto the hook, was gonna give this a go my self before I lost all my trout.

VLT we did the drag thing last year, was ok but still missed a couple, may give it a bash again
Bndy, yep done that as well, best thing on the hook is a garden pea, or corn kernel, problem is they get smart, you will only catch 3 or 4 over a couple of days and then they won't touch the hook.
Netting them feeding is the best way but again they get smart and won't feed whilst they can see me near tank, if I move they jump like mad, I have a couple of marron hides in trout tank as well, so is hard to drag properly

Silvers are getting more fun, they wait for 5.30pm feed time, blue marron come out at feeding as well, water is clear as, so will get some pics on weekend
