just got back from my 8th or 9th blackout in the last 2 1/2 weeks.

Its a good thing I set up my battery backup before this started. Some have been hours long.

Dont you just hate it when you have been working on an animation for the last 5 hours and the power goes off. One out of two backuo systems aint bad.

I was trying to come up with a way to grow marron or yabbies, or whatever underwater walking things with claws are called in other parts of the world, and came up with something that might work.

Actually I was looking at was to break down solids, starting with using a swirl filter filled with shell grit as a poo-chewer©.

I figured I needed a chain of ever younger fish to break down larger solids into progressive smaller ones. I noticed in a fishtank that solids often get re-eaten.

Underwater walking things with claws tend to be very good at eating other critters solids and extracting whatever nutrients are left. Smaller walking things with claws eat the solids left be larger walking things with claws.

So...

I figured, if I could pull solids out of my fish tank, and put them through 8 inch PVC pipes containing cells with marron in them, I might have a winner.

The marron would be in separate cells so wouldn't be able to fight. I could select a mating pair to keep in a fishtank inside my house to breed from, and add the young, one to a cell, at the growbed end of the system. The solids coming from the fish tank would be flowing very slowly as the flow would be split into perhaps 6 to 8, 8 inch PVC tubes. The cells would consist of plastic mesh cages made from "gutter gard" (a product to keep leaves out of your roof gutters)

Fish tank solids would need to run the gauntlet past perhaps 15 or more underwater walking things with claws before making it to the grow bed(s).

Marron would be harvested from the fishtank end of the setup as new small ones are put into the cells at the other end.

Any feedback/derisive laughter would be appreciated

(I've seen the youtube video of the marron high-rise things that float around in a FT but see some issues with poor feed conversion rates.)

I've decided to call it...

Marron and Yabby Artificial Raising Serial Environ

:laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3: ...well done on the name BW.

I was thinking on having yabbies in the bottom of the IBC's (see netab32's tanks) but using some of the bacteria filter thingos I have collected, one yabbie per cylinder so about 20-30 yabbies per cage.

I can't see why yours won't work but you will have to suppliment the feeding with pellets etc.

Make sure each yabbie has a fair trial before being sent to the cell ;)

RE: the name - I wasnt sure if any one would notice :)

and re: netab32's first system - ! thats a first system!!!

RE: feeding - yeah. I was thinking I might even be able to keep an "on demand" supply of duckweed floating above them (if I can keep it from running down to the grow beds)

You could go many places with that acronym -

Hmmm -

Marron & Yabbie Bio-Aqua Level Layered System ?

Or -

Freshwater Utility Crustacean Kingdom - Factory And Containment Ecosystem ?

Or, perhaps -

Crustacean Or Catfish Keeping Laboratory Installation & Pasteurization System?

I want a YabbiCam pointed at the cells 24/7. Should be more fun than a thousand monkeys typing.

Don't know why I want the ability to observe them. May be a Schrodinger's Crustacean kind of thing.

Could work. If look at EDU systems, they look like a collection of milk bottles.

you are the person I need for my next task :)

I want to create a new IP public licence where the only thing you need adhere to is the strict policy of maintaining the inventor's chosen acronym.

You can make the product, cell the product, change the product, change the name of the product, but you must maintain the original acronym no matter what :)

Acronym Tyranny!

I figure it will give the local plumber first crack at creating the business before the multinationals are wiling to put their name to a product named something like the Bio POO-CHEW-Train :)

At the very least you get a funkier class of multinational :)

Originally I was hoping to come up with something that would fit...

odolobo

1. because I own odolobo.com and could use it to host the licence docs for my new method of sharing/wasting inventions and ideas :)
and 2. because it looks so nice and symmetrical :)

I cant find anything funny enough that fits so I think I'll have to give up on my dream :)

my local physics by-laws state that if I eat one, another will take it's place.

I'v been thinking of setting up a web cam to promote aquaponics, but I'm not sure how much of my naked early morning feeds the world is ready for :)

Perhaps I could get a cardboard cut-out of [insert whoever the hell is considered attractive these days] to wear when I have to tend the garden.
