Caught this one in the Swan River last week, up Bassendean way, does anyone have any idea what it is?

Ahhh, just as I'm posting this Carl suggested that it might be a Yellow tail trumpeter, and it is... Good size though, they reckon they only grow to a maximum of 28cm..

Missed the kiss, but definitely threw it back... Had a good day, with about 10-12 black bream, only a couple of keepers, but still good fun.

Very nice, very nice - you're having a good run on the fishing lately.

There's been a lot of lean trips I can tell you... Had probably more than half a dozen trips in the river with nothing but blowies. One extremely frustrating trip where we saw literally hundreds of bream swimming under the boat, but couldn't get them to bite. Never seen anything like it, black bream just streaming past under the boat in big schools...

Last two trips have been lucky, and tomorrow is the first try at crabbing for the season...

Hmmm - whatever it is, I caught one in the Swan at Bassendean, then another a couple of weeks back in Moore River @ 3kms upstream from the river mouth. I too was stumped - first I'd seen of any such fish. Definitely has trumpetter likeness, but different markings...

Long live BB fishing!

Baits or lures/jigs?

tried a fair range of hard bodies, and a fair few jigs, jigs get hammered by blowies. In general we've never had much luck with the lures, mussels worked a treat last week...

Heard people call them Yellowtail Grunter or Yellowtail Trumpeter depending on their preference :)

Very pretty little fish and very good livebait for Jewfish.

Mussels in their shell is the trick.. its almost guaranteed off the jetties for black bream and the blowies can't touch it :)

You need to buy different hooks though, the ones used for worms.

This is where I first saw it;

Works a treat!
