What about over wintered stock Rup, or am I really pushing it now???
I have kept my SP in outdoor, partially insulated IBC all winter, only lost 2 and think it was because of the goldfish disease, not the cold. They definately don't like the cold becuase I have not seen them feed for at least 6 months now.
I'm starting to think that over wintered stock for perch may be the way to go for this climate, since my SP have been extremely slow, and from what is being written about Jades the same water temp conditions apply.
Over wintered stock could reduce a possible 24month grow out for perch to around 18months maybe less if water quality stays good and you can pump them with feed for 2 summers and only one stagnant winter.

Certainly true for Silver Perch... I only ever stock, and usually only sell... overwintered stock of 100mm +...

I've seen evidence that Jade Perch can be over-wintered in NSW... even in open air tanks... and could certainly be over-wintered in tanks in sheds, and/or minimal heating...

But don't be misled... they don't have the lower temp tolerances that Silver Perch can endure...

Sadly, very little over-wintered Jade Perch stock available... might be on to a source...

Keep me posted Rup, PM me if you find anything. I am begging to think I will get a smaller number of stock, possibly 25-30, especially after your last comments about Jades tollerance to low water temps.
I really wish it would warm up a bit, can not seem to get my water temps up at the moment due the extremely cold nights we are having!

Do you think over-wintered stock of 100mm+/- could be grown out in a single typical warm season in my area, in above ground tanks or am I really gambling here.

I read Milne's comments about his and he is not far from me, there must be hope!

Hey Guys,
I just bought some last week up here in NQ. Nowhere near as cold as down there!
I spoke to Peter who stocks Jade at http://www.tarzalilakes.com/component/option,com_contact/catid,20/Itemid,99/ and he has a great wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Are you human?: What time is it?

Im on the hunt too bndybear. Just checked http://www.ausyfish.com - they have stock available - min purchase of 50 though. 4-5cm fingerlings for $1.54ea. cheaper for bulk.

http://www.ausnativefish.com.au have them avail in Dec for $2.00 if wanting under 50, or $80 for 50, $150 for 100. Or available now are 15+cm fingerlings for $20 per kilo.

there is also http://www.seqfish.com.au - dont have any pricing info on the site but they do sell them - would have to call to find out prices/availability though.

still cant find anything closer to Vic but will post if I do - hope that helps :D

Nup, unless you get written permission from the fisheries minister (pretty big odds against that).
