Whats been going on here in the last three days?!


My 'puter had a coronary thursday morning and i only managed to revive it around 3 am sunday morning! I was expecting to find 600+ posts and there was a measley 230 something.

Talk about internet cold turkey. Everything was working except networking and hence my internet............tried everything, re-install of SP2, windows recovery using CD, brute force copy of all system32 files from anopther install..........nothing.......and it was Sooo hard to fault find becasue i had to keep popping 3 blokcs away to a mates place to use the net to look up forums Arg! Lucky my active sync was telling me "tcp/ip transport not installed" as this gave me a starting point, might have never found it otherwise!

Anyway, i had to reset the tcp/ip stack using netsh int ip reset ip_reset.txt command from a dos promp AND delete and replace the winsock registry entries using two reg keys i found on a forum.

I know most of this is WTF?, but i thought i'd post it incase anyone ever had a simmilar problem, they could browse back here! Apparently some spyware modifies the winsock layer and when removed leaves it corrupted. and because they are registry entries, an XP CD repair won't do the trick

nup, not me! I refrained form logging in "off site' bacuse i was scared of how many post there would be and that i wouldn'r be able to get through them all!

Hey Steve, I know about logging in, almost afraid to, because there may not be enough time to read everything. This time of year I will be gone alot. But catching what I can. Glad to see you got your system back up before you did damage to your health in worry.

Um, I just tried to put up smilie and the site said hacking attempt. Should I be concerned?

nah, just preview your message and select a smiley from there, or learn the shortcuts

The last thing any of us want to see is the word "hacker" on this site, get um Steve, protect us!!!
