Thanks Scotty - yep, I'm happy to have a water feature or something in the middle (like Burnsy suggested), but that's the limit. We did have three pots along the back wall once, withsome sort of iris in them, but they just ended up being crud traps and fouling the water.

On the curves aspect, there's plenty of curves in other part of the house. The architect couldn't help himself  (see below).

Also, as I keep telling her, it aint finished yet. Those air hoses need to be weighed down some how and I do want to dress up the drainage pipes more. It's getting there.

My GBs are setup so that each one drains into a 1000L or 500L sump (see first photo below), and they all drain back to the FT by gravity.

Well, I saw half a dozen roots sticking out of the bottom of the pipe into the sump water, so I gave them a pull thinking "I'll break them off now before they build up", and came away with the bundle you can see in the second photo.

Good reminder for people to be checking their GB outlets, with spring and faster growth coming on.

Yeah. It wasn't backing up as it was, but obviously that was coming.

Heya CD -

Thanks for popping by the thread!

Now - question.

I'm sure you speak of it elsewhere in your thread, but I wonder what ppt salt you run for BB? Being a WA lad, I've always loved BB as a small sportfish in the Swan and Moore Rivers - in fact, I was fishing upriver from Guilderton today. I'd love to keep them in AP, but fret that the salinity may need to be (too) high? I've read WA Fisheries literature that suggests 3ppt as the minimum for survival, and upwards of that for them to prosper. I'm thinking maybe I'll run a separate IBC for them with salt tolerant plants - suggestions?

BTx

Those that have tried Black Bream in AP... have generally abandoned them... mainly becuase of extremely slow growth....

Don't you worry there Rupe - they're growing (well some are).

freoboy - yep, BB = black bream

BT - don't worry about fisheries, these have spent most of their time so far at about 1ppt or less and they are fine. They take pellets and worms and seem pretty happy in with the SPs.

...and you've been running with BB for some time @ 1ppt and they show no signs of fresh water trauma? And continue to grow?

That's great news! I think I'll take an aerator next time I go fishing n bring some home, isolate them n slowly decrease salinity to 1ppt!

You're one of the only people of heard of as having BB in AP. Are they as feisty in AP as they are in the wild? Looks like I'll have to read the entirety of your thread to get the breadth and depth of it all!

Is there some shade over the fish tank? If not, add some. It might reduce the algae growth and make the space look more appealing to the missus...

Have to agree with Abdul on that. Very architectural - not sure what they call that style but I've always liked the feel of houses made like your's. Open feeling, lots of glass, very modern - would this be considered Bauhaus?

Thanks Scotty (& Abdul)

Bauhaus ?, not really up on the architectural side, that was more Mrs Chilli's thing.

Unfortunately it's not my favourite thing at the moment due to resultant legal battle with lying asshole builder and bad contract advice from the architect.

I think they carked it Burnsy, a little while back. Something about they come in one day and found them in an inch of water and they never really got over it (the fish that is, not Joel and Faye).
