Yeah, I think you got be be realistic on what you expect the system to do... If you use approximately 33 units a day and cannot reduce that anymore, then you will need at least a 6kW system to cover your power usage and a larger system above that to be really exporting power. But I believe there is a limit of 5kW for residential so you can only have max a 5kW system.

mine is 1kw in 3x2 cottage block, I had the 2.5 kw inverter installed for expansion I save about $5 on my last bill of $400 with the new tarif it is only me and my wife and 1x 7r old daughter, I went low wattage on everything in this house and still can't get it to work, I've had the installers back several times and synergy, I went from 10-15 units a day before the system was installed to 20-25units a day after, they say my old meter was faulty, It's made me extremely sceptical now

My system is 1.8Kw, 1 person, 2 1m cube freezers with 1/4 a cow in each  , 1 fridge/freezer, 1 PC 24/7, 120w aquaponics. Gas HWS.
Stats here

As others have said a 1 Kw system is not going to make a big dent but still.

It almost sounds as if your smart meter is setup wrong and your getting charged for your solar production. Especially if you went from 15units to 25 units after installation.

Does your power bill show an RE renewable Energy and home (A1) amount?

I've seen some cheap 6v ones on ebay, but they only work in direct sunlight and probably do little.

Otherwise its the same as running a pump on solar, expensive.
Its more cost effective to have a battery backup of some sort on AC charge that only has to run off battery during a power fail.
As others suggested if you want to go solar make it a grid connect system.

What's strange is you say even when you went away and shut down most of the house you still didnt reduce your bill?

Maybe get another electrician out to get a 2nd opinion?

Also, is there anything shading your panels? Like a TV antenna, foxtel dish or branch casting a shadow on any panel? What alot of people don't know is if any panel in a string is shaded the entire ouput of that string will be effectively reduced to 0.

Plenty of dodgy installs out there...
