Thanks Jamie

so I have to crack a stubbie and sort of share it, right?
The principle sounds fine, so I will sacrifice a saucerful of expensive gluten free beer in the name of Aquaponics

cheers

I'm having slug problems too, but mum says will get some medicine that gets put on the outside of the planters and it will kill the slugs.

I suggested, gingerly, the beer saucer idea, and was asked if I'd gone out of my mind. It is relevant to consider that my culture 'frowns' upon drinking so to speak.

Anyhew, if I see any of them in my GB, which has river rock in it, I will use the beer saucer no questions asked.

Speaking of which its 2 am now, should go up and have a look.

If you lay a large leaf accross the surface of the media, or even an upside down 1/2 grapefruit they will take shelter and you can just dispose of the leaf or shell. So now you have a couple of options Abdul! :)

I found ringing the GBs with salt to be very effective. Also lime worked a treat... best not to do when it's raining often, but your system can oft handle the relatively small amount.
The slugs can't bear it.
Oh and flood the bed high before hand, to make sure you clear the media of the little blghters.

Would fish, goldfish hypothetically, eat slugs if they were chopped up and thrown in the tank?

i figure crayfish/yabbies would eat them for sure...

The redfin just love those small slugs ,we also have a large one but nothing likes them .Not even the chooks or ants.I will have to see if they will eat the drunk ones, the trouble is I'm a wouser so I will have to buy some beer just for the slugs .It might be good for a laugh if I told the them at the pub what I was going to use it for.
