and if not, any of you gurus know what time of year the swao usually happens? my tank is reaching a max of about 23 deg on a day like today (sunday)
i think the warmest i have seen it is 24 - 26

Well yes, I have put barra into my tank. Although I have also got an electric heater with thermostat set at 24degC. And I also cover my tank to stop the heat from escaping easily.

IMO, waiting another month would be good. Unless you are willing to spend money to heat the water.

i only have 9 left, going to leave em in till arter exams (4 weeks) then make a smoker and harvest :D

Put in 16 barra in on 1st, one causatly today as the weater reached 3oc on the water temp. Trying to grow barra for the first time :lol:

Well I believe barra will do alright up to 39degC water temp. My tank temp reached approx. 35degC last year and the barras were enjoying it in there.

Are you heating your water in the night? Huge temperature fluctuations between the day and night will stress fishes. And also aeration, you need lots of aeration as water temp increases.

Do you mean the temp that they are unhappy at? The temp they stop feeding at, the temp where they start laying on their sides, or the temp they actually die at?

I reckon you want to keep them above 20 if possible, the higher the better. At about 13-15 the cark it, 15-17 for an extended time and they will get diseased and die over time. 17-20 they aren't happy.

Of course this is all fairly rough..
