Ha ha..
I think you have to buy new nitrate test kit.
I found this site
http://seasunaquarium.com/home/index.ph ... t&Itemid=6

I think the price is OK
Do you have any better price/brand/store ? Share with me the buying source.

That is a good price, I remember paying 450baht for the Tetra kit, which gives only 45 tests.
But that was Surin, maybe the price is cheaper in Chiang Mai.

Going to post a link to the full "Master Test Kit" from that site... so that any other people over your way can find it...

http://seasunaquarium.com/home/index.ph ... t&Itemid=6

This is the one we recommend to people.... gives around 800 tests....

And as posted above... you can buy the individual tests seperately...

They also sell this.
http://www.brightwellaquatics.com/products/ferriont.php

Techical stuff says:
0-0-0
Iron (Fe) (min) 0.40% Chelated Iron (118 mg/oz.; 4,000 ppm)

Could I use that instead of straight chelated iron?
I have had no luck finding chelated iron, everyone looks at me like I'm crazy when I try to describe what it is.
But then again before I discovered AP, I had never heard of it either.

Fish still alive today, feeding very well, have been out all day again today, not had chance to test the water and it's dark now.
Whatever the problem was seems to have gone away now, very odd indeed.
Will wait a bit longer and get some more fish.

Dui.

I'm not sure but I understand that EDTA mean chelate.

I forgot a question.
Why use chelated iron?
for fish or for plant or both.

I think it's good for plant.
But why do they sell in aqua shop
Is it good for fish?

Thanks for those links Ao, that's a great help.
Chelated Iron provides Iron supplement to the plant in a soluble form that they can use.
High PH systems benefit from it the most, I had some beans in the ground next to my mini system in Surin, and they were definitely greener than the AP same plants.
PH was high there, around 8.5 usually.
Another trick people use is to put a banana skin in the growbeds to supplement potassium.

I expect the aquarium shop sells it for people who have living reefs in their system, but I don't know for sure.

How are those last 2 fish going Dui ?

Just thinking about your deaths in this system - is the tank in the mooban galvanised ?

You're certainly living in a beautiful part of the world. I spent a couple of weeks up there in 2008 with some friends that were living there at the time.

CD,
Fish still going strong, eating like crazy, gonna try to get some more tomorrow but perhaps fewer this time, maybe 70 was pushing a brand new system.

Got another GB online today.

Water tests great.
26 degrees.
0 Ammo
0 'Rites
12.5 mg/L 'Rates

This mooban's water tower is concrete, at least on the outside.
When I build my next system, I will fishless cycle one way or another.

Was talking to the girl who lives next door today, turns out she is studying (among other things) Hydro at Mae Jo University, got myself an invite in December.
Have seen some of the stuff they are doing on You-Tube, looks interesting.
She also told me that she didn't know I had fish in the system, she thought is was connected to the toilet...
Shudder to think what she thought I was doing with the return water :D

Shame my Thai isn't better or her English was better, think a connection with the Uni would be highly beneficial.

More pics tomorrow, have just finished washing the last load of gravel for the 3rd bed, covered in mosquitoe bites now, dusk is not the best time to be in the garden with water around every where.

Cheers

Dui

Still haven't got round to taking more pics, promise to do so tomorrow.
Added some aglae eating catfish to the ST, damn they do a good job.
ST totally cleaned of algae, I bought 10, which on reflection was too many, I have put half in the FT which has started to get a slight film of algae around it.
Of course when fish eat, they pooh, so now the sump tank is (or was this morning) full of fish pooh.
I visited one of the markets that sells all kinds of fish and bought 40 catfish for the FT and 2 small yabby/crayfish to put in the ST.
Tonight (midnight my time, been out all afternoon again today) the ST is almost clear again, mini yabbies doing their job.
FT has no dead fish, fingers crossed for tomorrow morning.
Next thing will be to find something to eat the yabby pooh, snails perhaps?

Have been very slack planting the GB's so this morning got 1 moringa tree, papya and some flowers, all as an experiment.
Needed something to suck up some Nitrates.

Wish I had more time to play at the moment, but things seem to be going well.

Cheers for now.

Dui.

Throw some basil in there Dui, will be a good indicator of all going well and will eat up the nitrates too. Stay at it, and lets see those pictures :]

3 Growbeds, though the 3rd is not fully working, not enough water in the sump to flood all 3 at the same time...
Image

ST - water very clear, some poop at the bottom.

Smaller of the 2 yabbies.

FT - can't see much.

Be careful snails stuck in your pump. I found this problem in my system.

Buy the way. I bought iron chelated & fill in my system. My plant become greener as your info.

Hi Abdul
Why basil can tell us the status of the system?
How can we notice that?
