OK folks, We are now in the market for some Barra fingerlings. Could anyone help me out with suppliers?

The supplier needs to courier to the North West of WA.

Although he does not have big size fish, approximately about 5-8cm range. Some might be 10cm... That was about 2-3 weeks ago.

If you intend on getting fish from him, try to organise your own ezy and battery aerator as it takes less of his time compared to someone who wants to get the fishes bagged for transport.

Alternatively search the forum for a few other suppliers people have talked about recently. Or the last resort would be Golden Ponds, as I personally would not recommend anyone to buy from there if I have another option, mainly due to the experiences about fungus last year and a few experience about others this year by forum members.

Cant help with numbers but there is a Barra Farm here in Exmouth , a google search would probably turn up a number .

Just got some barra from gp looks like a waste of money they r just about dead have a white tinge on there side and top spine wife is not happy after my explaining that I needed to test the barra this year only to see them die is it to early to get them yet?

Only noticed when i got home but they had some in their tank a bit sick looking only got 2 out of 12 left a waste of life :(

They had a problem there last year with their barra :evil: Not sure what the hell they do to get it wrong. I've seen the fish at the TAFE hatchery and they were fine (last years batch).

Well firstly, muna75, I hope you are heating the water. Barra do not survive well unless the water is consistently over 20degC.

As for GP, I got my barra from there last year and the tank the barra were held in, the water was so cloudy that you cannot see the fishes. Luckily my barra survived, they were probably happy to be out of that tank anyway. I must say I believe I just escaped the fungus issue some people had with their fishes by just being 1-2 weeks earlier.

To me, their level of their fish keeping is probably worst than a good local fish shop. I would certainly not consider it aquaculture as advertised on their website. The guy in Bedfordale had a better setup. See thread below... there are also other places people has recommended to get barra.

I contacted tony yesterday and he has fingerlings 7-10cm for $2 a pop if anyone is still in the hunt
