Added 20KG of Shell grit to system over last month, spread over GB's, Yabbie tanks & ST. This and the rain over the last few weeks has brought the PH back up to 7.5 and the growth is amazing. I didn't know vegies tasted that good :headbang:

One dead Yabbie today, that's not even a week, no apparent cause :dontknow: so lets wait and see how the others go. Trout feeding like crazy, heaps of fun to watch, would like to feed them all day.

Yabbies can be finicky things sometimes, I've heard many stories now of people stocking dozens into a tank to only end up with 3 or 4 at the end...

They just love fighting each other...

Though we have had self supporting populations in our yabby tank for a long time now, your pretty much guaranteed of always finding one when you pick up a hide from the water.

After the success of the system since starting this week i have started on the first phase of extending the system for the upcoming spring/summer crops.

Recent water tests Ok with Ammonia: Zero, PH: 7.5, Nitrites ,.3 and Nitrates 20

Water is not as clear as I would like but the Trout are happy and feeding well. Yabbies and Catfish seem to be OK as well. Pics to follow.

Our cat fish tend to sit on the pump the whole time, I wonder if it's perhaps because the pump has some warmth to it.

Good to see you're expanding... :thumbright:

Mine seem to huddle in the corner or the pipe fittings that I places in the tank for them. I am hoping that they will grow out a bit as the weather warms up and I will spread them out in the various FT's to keep the place clean (well that's the theory anyway)

Your place is taking shape and looking good
I think your well and truly hooked :thumbright:
I have yabbies in our current setup but am seriously considering putting them in a separate system. I don't want the problems that Nocky and other have experienced

Hi All,

A few pics of recent work and general Ap area. I probably need to clean up a bit just to make it look a bit nicer for all the visitors. Next door neighbour comented the other day that I take everyone that comes to the AP garden for a look :headbang:

Had to have a weekend on general house duties (grass etc) so no work on AP. Interesting that trout were not feeding yesterday but today back to normal and all is good ????????

They are a little suicidal at times, might be a new project for you....stick a lid/cover over the tank

Are you human?: Depends

Agreed. Trouts definitely need a tank cover. The trajectory from where they landed. Was there water draining or gushing down into the tank. Seen video clips or salmon jumping??

A simple bird net would suffice if it is weighed or tied down on the outside of the tank.
