Thanks TC,
Have tested again this morning, Nitrites still 1.. probably higher tbh, the colour in the testube never quite matches the chart.

Will starve them another day, poor things :shifty:

Hey all,
Another water test this morning:
Nitrites around 0.3 - hooray they are falling.
Ammonia - still a trace.. the GF fed them twice yesterday despite me leaving very specific instructions not to feed
Nitrates around 50 - need some stuff to grow and quickly, considering putting a small banana plant in.
Water temp 30.

That's all for now, big old storm going on atm, hopefully bringing my PH down a little :)

Dui

That's good news.

Have you put any plants in yet?

Would love to see some up-dated photos.

Rain stopped for now (just can't get going this year, some rice paddies are looking very sad atm)
Quick pic upddate of the GB's, not much change since the last ones, but greener :D

Left of the pipe is rice, some from seed, some transplanted as an experiment.
To the right, some Pak Boong
Image

This is an eggplant (I think) from seed, only one from 100's of seeds that germinated, ants are already a problem here, I often see them marching away carrying my seeds!
Image

Two, two month old rice plants, transplanted, again an experiment.

3 Pak Boong plants, all from seed, all planted at the same time, size difference is odd.
Had to laugh cos as I was uploading it I realised there was a caterpillar on one.
It's now in on of the Catfishes bellies, despite the famine, just one more can't hurt :)

Just a trace of Nitrites this morning, wooo
Didn't do the other tests as Ammonia and Nitrate kits are rather expensive here and hard to get hold of, took 4 months to get the NO3 kit
Will do a full test tomorrow.

Looking good!

Poor little caterpillar, not quite the way he thought his day was going to end when he woke up! :)

Also great news on the numbers too. It's been a couple of weeks since I have done mine. A job for the weekend.

Crazy crazy storm going on right now, 20:42.
Looking forward to testing my PH in the morning, assuming the river doesn't wash me into the gulf of Thailand :)

Cycling up, isn't it fun!!!!

I think bananas are great plants to use up nitrates!!! However, beware that they can become monsters in an Aquaponic grow bed. (I had a dwarf variety that the main stem was only supposed to get to 4' tall but when we chopped it out because it was getting into the power lines to the house the main stem was probably over 9 foot tall and the leaves made it probably 15 foot tall.) But I'm still growing lots of bananas, papaya and bamboo in the system since I need something that can grow in the extreme heat and use up nutrients over the summer.

Some sad news:
This thread won't be updated anymore because my GF and I have decided to go our separate ways, well I decided to go my own way....
It's been building for a while but I had to do it.
I have left her and gone 967kms to Chiang Mai, where I lived in 2006 I have many friends here, one of whom has a fish farm, traditional aquaculture and recently has concreted 3 smaller ponds to try RAS.
Perfect opportunity for me to start AP again on some of his land, mildly frustrating to have got the other system cycled, but such is life :)

Stay tuned :)

Dui

Best of luck Dui.... and hope to see a new system sometime soon...

Most of us have girlfriends/wives... that lose us to our AP systems...

First time someone has lost their AP system to their girlfriend/wife... :D

Hey All,
Have been in Chiang Mai for a couple of months now.
Was offered a business opportunity that I coudn't refuse and have been crazy busy working on that.
Today though, I went out and bought a load of stuff for AP.
This one will be a looooot smaller than the one is this thread at 280 litres, but size... they tell me, isn't important :)

Hope to start a new thread tomorrow.

Dui.

Awww, thats harsh man. At least you have the satisfaction of seeing it working so well :]

Hopefully she'll keep feeding the fish, after washing all that gravel she should have some attachment with the system [;
