Hey freoboy, it is a high protein floating pellet and we give it to both types of fish, the plants like it too and so do our dogs :dontknow:

Haa my dog luvs em too!! Walks around all the tanks and picks up any pellet thats laying on the floor even down to 3mm size.
Im pretty sure the BYAP shop sells the Spectra Pellet which is technically speaking a Trout pellet. Skretting market their Nova and Classic as Barramundi Pellets but looking at the ingredients there dosent appear to be much of a difference between them other than the Nova has a higher protein content for a larger pellet size, no doubt due to the Barras larger mouth. The larger Spectra Pellets also contain carotenoid pigments so that the flesh of the Trout will have the appealing orange colour but dont worry if you feed it to your Barra the flesh wont go orange.
The fish certainly dont know the difference and for the typical backyard aquaponic enthusiast it wouldnt be worthwhile buying a different pellet for each species.

Hi All
I've been feeding my silvers 3mm fish feed from BYAP and are doing great on them. They break the surface to feed. I often watch them feed from floating and sinking pellets.

Hi guys, did we ever figure out if the BYAP pellets are the spectra pellets?

I'm after trout pellets with the carotenoids added (colour enhancer for my koi) - would appreciate any pointers as to where to source it.. ;)

THanks!

Does the spectra feed have any benafit over the nova or is a colour change the only difference?

Well carotenoids in aquaculture I believe are mainly used to increase marketability. However, a welcome side effect is a better food animal - carotenoids are not synthesised by animals and must be ingested. They're also fairly well recognised as good for your health - with a small caveat if you're a smoker...
