Hi

Why not a tee before the filter and split the output from the pump. So a 50/50 mix to the filter and the rest sails by until caught the next time round

Well not sure exactly of your system setup, but is the new pre-filter water returning back to the tank right above the pump?? I suppose if it is, does the return water drop deep into the top water surface??

Well I have a similar problem with my pond pump if I top up the water right above the suction of the pump, the splashing water going into the water surface sometime carries air into the suction and my pump just goes into weird state... it seems like it is pumping but no water comes out... I believe an air bubble gets trapped in there... I usually have to turn off the pump and turn it back on again to "reset" it.

My pump is in my ST and the outlet from the GB was right above it, it worried me for the same reason as I could see the air bubbles almost making it to the pump when the cycle flushed, but I've never had a similar problem, sounds strange.

I think get a sixpack of beer and just watch it for a few hours, hopefully it will fail again in front of you and you can diagnose it.

Or maybe it was just a freak occurrance, or maybe a fish getting caught in it.

Who knows :dontknow:

This is as near to plausible as I can think of, but still not likely. The return from the afterthought bag filter is at the same end as the outlet on the tank, but off to one side about a metre.
Arguably more worrying than the fact that this happened at all is the fact that it hasn't happened for two days now. Is it fixed? Was it ever broken? Is the list of unlikely evens preparing to align again just as I'm heading for the airport for my weeks holiday? Best eat a couple of fish this week, just in case.

You couldn't catch the last four?!? How are we to creat information from this data if it is incomplete?! And since it is incomplete what took you so long?

Should I do anything special to the trout if I want to eat a few tomorrow or the next day? Stop feeding? Put in clean water? Salty water? Or just grab them and cook?

I've been sieving the dust part out of my pellets. It looks messy and bad for the system. Is this a good idea and what can I do, if anything, with the half kilo of powder I've got?

I'm in and out of airports like a footy team in this half of the year. I've got a few weeks to myself before I head back to Perth to continue the holiday. I look forward to Christmas time where I can moan face to face about the problems I'm having with my system, and then listen intently to the sage advise that comes forthwith.
