Pulled out three rainbows, one for me and two for some friends. We are doing a honey and rubarb swap for a couple of trout! Batteries died but got a pic of the medium sized of the three. The weight is a cleaned weight.

Cooked mine up outside, seasoned with salt, AP thyme, and a nob of butter. Beautifull!!!!!!
While it was frying away, picked some sugar snaps and sugar snap ends and tendrils, cress and lettuce for a bit of an impromptu salad. It all went down very very well!

just looked at the pic, it's pre-cleaned weight!

On another note, my boss has just approved a tour of my garden and AP system for my yr 7 students I teach. They are doing a unit on water and resource use with CERES coming out to do some workshops and the students going to Melton Water Treatment Facility (which has gone or at least is almost there - carbon neutral). Very exciting but it means that I gotta do a bit of a clean up! Wouldn't want on eot the little beggers to fall into a hole and never come out again....

companion planting. I have planted marigolds and alyssum flowers through the strawberry growbed. Apparently they attract ladybettles and hover flies which will take care of the aphids. Last year, I had a great strawberry crop until I transplated a strawberry plant from the old system which had aphids (or their eggs or something - too small to see) and they spread to the other ones. Surfice to say, I was looking forward to a third crop of strawberries for the season that didn't come... I have now put new strawberry crowns into a different bed along with the marigolds and alyssum. I did notice a few aphids and so until the flowering plants flower and attract the good bugs, I am vigilantly using the most organic pest contorl method I can think of....squish the little S#$TS with my fingers. So far, the berries don't seem to be affected yet nor the leaves or flowers. Fingers crossed!

I also found a frog in the growbed (didn't have my camera dang it!) It's hiding there somewhere and hopefully devouring snails and slugs!!!!
