Did anyone see the current affairs program on saving power with pool pumps. Couple of ozzies have managed to dial down the motors, saving on yearly power bills for running pools. Not sure if it can work with pond pumps or if it affects the head as pools are mainly at a lower head height.

Does anyone know if dialing down a pump will shorten its life? I had heard doing so to a non variable speed motor would shorten the life.

Anyone have experience with Honda submersible pumps?

They appear well constructed and reasonably priced.

Well I would not even consider a pump that did not have details of how much water it moved at what heads. How can you make an assessment about its value when you don't know what it is capable of?

Stuart, good point. Guess you haven't used one.
This link gives some specifications.

Performance curves can be obtained from Honda. I have seen them in the past, can't locate them now.

I picked up a Hozelock Cascade 4000 for my sump tank last week.

Need to add a return valve to the sump though, in hindsight I probably should have got a 3000.

I sent them an email, awaiting a reply to find an aussie wholesaler/retailer, looking at retailing them myself.

Pjenkyn, in several posts you have mentioned that you already own and operate a business...

And in your most recent half dozen posts you clearly indicate that you are persuing obtaining wholesale pricing on air pumps, pumps, hydroton, Canna etc... with the view to retailing....

Perhaps you should be reminded that this forum is run (free to the public) by Joel... as part of the general promotion of aquaponics and his business BYAP...

The suggestion was made at one point that perhaps you could approach BYAP with a view of retailing/distributing their products... but you seem intent in actually expanding your business and retailing/promoting your products in direct competion to BYAP....

And promoting that fact here on the forum... in direct competition to the business that hosts this forum...

That my friend is known as SPAMMING....

Perhaps you should...

Consider promoting your business activities in another place and by other means... like... your own web site, or the yellow pages...

And secondly.... only post relating to matters of aquapnics, or your own system here on the forum...

The forum is not intended as a place for free promotion, or advertising, of businesses ... especially those who are in direct competition to BYAP...

No doubt Joel may add further...

Haha
Peter works in a retic shop. He has got the obsession and i just think you are seeing his mind flowing here. I am sure if Pete could sort the BYAP stuff into his shop he would. But as i just said he works there. If i could source wholesale product i would offer it here as well. Not for a profit though i guess that is where Peter is posting wrong. He is thinking of his bosses shop potential.

The Ellenbrook meeting is wtf if we could get the dough why dont we open a shop.BYAP and all.

Have I once said the name of the shop,no I am purely trying to source equipment for our set ups if BYAP can help in any way please do so. I am not that much of a company man, you truly have me mistaken. I am purely trying to help out a community of APers who are tired of driving all the way to jandakot when they need something small. I don't own the store I haven't said that.

Also I see the 2 negative comments come from the east, do they realise the geographical situation of it all, WE ARE AT LEAST AN HOUR AWAY, that is not direct competition, I have noted that I will watch what I post a little better, I am only trying to help, and getting shot down in the process, Thankyou,

That's true pjenkin, and is why I posted here and not in the "ellenbrock" thread... discussion of a "shared purchase" between a group of people in an area in order to spread delivery costs and/or to obtain a bulk discount... on a product that isn't offered by BYAP is reasonable....

But if you look up your profile and do a "search user posts".... it's clear that you have expressed a desire and intention to obtain wholesale pricing on various items and offer them for "retail"... consistantly from your first post....

There's a difference....

And you've consistantly given the impression that it's your "shop".... not that you "work" there...

And I'm sure that Joel would give both consideration, and reasonable commercial discounts to anyone that might seriously seek to act as a distributor within an area... unless that might compromise his own business direction...

But you haven't once mentioned any approach to BYAP with regard to obtaining any pricings or entering into any arrangement....

As to being an hour away... well that's barely a drive across the city, even for a cab... and a damn poor excuse ...
