morning snags

i agree with the morning after pill especially for victims of rape and funding for 3rd world family planning should happen
stem cell research in the right hands is amazing
family planning i think should talk about all subjects including abortion
the war on terror im not sure .i hate seeing distraught parents after the loss of a child

have agreat weekend

Gaz that is ridiculous, there may have been an increase in boats, this would be because more people are fleeing not because Labor are in power, Liberals didn't actually blow them out of the water to stop them coming, nor did they turn them around, both options would be inhumane, they need a chance to be heard, if they are in fear of their life and have legitimate reason to gain asylum then why should it not be granted, would your views be the same if the boats contained people from England, White South Africa or America?

The ABC ran a feature the other night correlating strongly wars & incidents of boats in excactly the way you describe Nocky. A few things come to mind - Melbourne have Somali gangs, and all sorts of others too and they usually are come from disenfranchised, underemployed soci-demographic groups - little to do with race. Racism in my experience is usually expressed through our xenophobic culture which comes to the surface fairly regularly. Often this xenophobia doesnt have a rational explanation and those exhibiting it dont understand their own motivastions. Which is why you hear alot "i'm not racist but...."...

I find it strange that we are feel strongly enough to fight wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and still reject citizens from those countires as refugees.

Gaz you talk in circles, but boat people are not illegal, I'm sue rupe has said that more illegal immigrants are here from over staying visa's and come her legally first, I do believe from reading your posts that you are
1) threatened by boat people
2) full of shit
We had this in the 70's with Vietnamese boat people, people like you were saying Blow Them Out of the Water, use them as target practice etc, 30+years on the Vietnamese are just a part of the population and are quite happily doing the Jobs that us hard working aussies don't want to do, IE Veggie Gardens, Fast Food Shops like Fish & Chips etc, launderettes , in fact they are doing the exact same Jobs that the Italian migrants did in the 1950's onwards, that the aussies didn't want to do, now the Itialians have worked there arse off and got flash houses and cars, sold out to the Viets and I expect the Viets will have nice houses and flash cars and sell out to the the new wave boat people, people like yourself will whinge that they have flash houses and cars

Gaz it would be wonderful to see your AP set up, as yet I have not seen you have 1 post about anything AP related

its been an interesting week of banter
i will not post on this politics forum again until i educate myself on the plight of boat people ,illegals etc

in saying that
i am a proud australian
we are the most over taxed country in the world or near to
we are very generous as a nation as we give humanitarian and monetary aid all over the world we have a immigration system to enable all races to migrate to this great country

but
our pensioners that help build australia do not recieve enough money to put a roof over there head or heaters on in winter or airconditioners in summer or have to go without food
australias brave soldiers that go and leave there families here and some never return
etc etc
maybe we should look after our own better as well

Interesting discussion... As technology advances and our world expands and becomes more global, there's jostling and bickering between different areas that has carried on for as long as humanity has been around. This has changed over the centuries from tribal ownership or areas through to modern day, country vs country. Who knows, one day it might be world Vs world, then Galaxy Vs Galaxy.

Personally I'm a human first and an Australian second, I love Australia and living here, but I don't consider it to be "mine" in any way. I was just lucky enough to be born here, others aren't quite as lucky with where they are born. Us just don;t get the Us and Them attitude, I know many people think like this, I just don't really understand it though...

As far as pensions go? This is more of a problem with our society, by the time I'm at retirement age I don't imagine there will be a pension available for me to draw on, and that's fair enough. In other countries the job of looking after the elderly fall down to family and relatives, and at the rate our population is aging we need to look at better options for supporting our elderly. Pensions are a flash in the pan idea that was never viable long term, especially not with people living longer and longer. It just can't be people's right to work for X years then retire and be supported by the system.

Unfortunately I tend to agree.

This process is fundamentally in conflict with reducing population growth which in my onion is the greatest environmental threat we face. As a person without children (due to a variety of reasons) I am acutely aware of the potential dangers in my future. However I have seen many situations where the elder would have been better of without their children so simply having them is itself not an adequate answer.
