Hi Erich

My Sysphon hose is 19mm black poly. I had a hard time making loops due to outlet connector. So i had to use 90mm bends to get me where it needed to be :)

Do you have any issues with siphon cutoff shaker? Or do you just reduce flow in till the siphon starts cutting off by itself? Its something to ask Rupert as his pipe siphons have their outlet at the bottom of the barrel, I would imagine outlets on the sides would cutoff easier.

Hi Abdul

I am having probs atm. I need to get the supply water into the GB's at the same rate to enable the correct drain rate.

I am running continuosly atm until i get that fixed.

Adjust the inflow to each grow bed with a ball valve... so that each bed fills at a rate that doesn't overwealm the siphon...

It doesn't matter if the grow beds fill at different rates/times...

Thanks for the input Rup, but do tell, do loop siphons handle more or less flow than bell siphons? Also, whats your opinion on the down or front outlet issue? I remember talking to you about it somewhere else but we all got distracted :D

Less flow... generally because they're smaller diameter, being made from tubing...

And that's why they're more suited to small grow beds like barrels & bins....

Personally I prefer a bottom drain... to clear all the water... but it doesn't really matter much, as in a continually pumped system any water left is mixed constantly with each siphon cycle...

Thanks Rupe. I need to adjust mine as my timer is in 15 min intervals and my beds fill and drain once and then the beds can fill half way again.

I will sit and play this weekend to fix it up.

i find siphons have a lot to do with the Fall and length of outlet pipe and also having a trap/elbow on the end of it.

there are so many factors its a matter of playing...

i found with one of my bed iput a 20mm copling on the top of the StandPipe and it starts and stops easier, others i put a small V in the top of it. also one of my beds has a Elbow on the end of it to start it easier......

That it is indeed Rup, don't have access to that black poly pipe you guys using at the moment so going to go with a PVC bell siphon in my GB change up tonight/tomm.

Tell me if I'm horribly wrong but from what we've been talking about here I figure that using lopp siphons can use same amount of flow to trigger more loop sipohons than bell siphons, and an elbow at the end of the loop on the outlet and a larger coupling on the inlet help the siphon start/stop easier...?

Loop siphons don't need elbows and couplings to trigger the siphon... they merely initiate when the air within the tubing is displaced by the rising water...

The only flow control needed is on the inflow to the beds... to prevent filling the bed faster than the siphon can drain...
