Looking good mate!

I must admit, I started reading this thread, and, seeing the resources you were planning on using, thought 'hmmmmmm'. Seeing it develop stage by stage is a credit to your ingenuity!

It's amazing what you can make from not very much!

I look forward to seeing it in bloom!

hey LV, good stuff, looks like a really nice build up from a first system.

I made my siphons using the same fitting you're using, tested them a bit before putting them in, the fitting did seem to help, the siphon would be established sooner with the fitting than without it. It might help more if you put in a pipe to extend up a little bit from that fitting, would give it more of a funnel effect I think. Anyhew, quite excited to see how it turns out. :thumbright:

Thanks abdul,

I'm was thinking the same as you in regard to extending a larger diameter pipe to increase the funneling of the water. Still need to test it out, hopefully today I'll get a chance to do some more work.

Have you tried using a plastic bottle with the bottom cut off as the funnel? All I did was hot glue a ring of pipe to the bottom so it fitted into the fitting properly.

Check out the end of my thread below about backyard Affan Style siphons. Was real easy and very cheep! :D

Love how the system is looking now.

Those bottle degrade over time, but the funnel could be easily changed as it would be withing your gravel gaurd anyways. Also, you could use an upside down bottle instead of a 25-50 adapter to create your funnel effect and achieve affnan! Must make one and try it out.

Your video with the clear bell siphon is kickass Decal, would love to see a longer video of that, somehow see the whole body of the bottle, makes explaining the concept to people really easy.

I'm a bit concerned that my bathubs have started cracking in the enamel, the weight of the gravel on the steel frames could be the beginning of a headache.

At present I plan to silicon over these areas to 'seal' everything up.

It's a 2010 HD Softail Heritage Classic, a fantastic motorcycle to ride only had it a couple of months.

My second system is finally cycling away, still needs a few glitches ironed out.

Two of my five beds start to 'trickle' drain as soon as they start filling I'm assuming my leak holes are too big. I've blocked one with bluetac and it seem to fill and siphon ok.

I also assumed my beds would totally drain once they siphoned, they seem to retain maybe water to a depth of 50mm.

The main tank overflows occasionally as the return line to the sump and the overflow to the grow beds don't move water quick enough. I have added a tee piece from the pump line with a tap to allow some flow to immediately return to the sump.

Next step is to get all the taps set so they are flowing just right.
