Like a screaming banshee riding the horses of the apocolyse... chasing the dawn of a rising sun... and cutting a swathe and flattening all before it....
Out of nowhere Gerringong got flattened by an extreme wind storm with winds gusting over 100km/h...
Roofs lost, windows broken, trees down, branchs driven through walls, cars crushed, trucks, caravans and 4wd vehicles scattered all over the highway... and power lines down and power out from about 07:00 until about 15:30...
I've seen it blow a gale here before... and some savage storms.... but none like this morning...
It only lasted until about 5-6 hours until lunch-time... and has been a gentle breeze since, almost still and almost silent.... other than the piecing wail of emergency sirens and the stucco scream of hundreds of 2 stroke chainsaws....
Approx 150 SES and other emergency service workes in town... and trafiic snarled for kilometers, all trying to get to their famailies for fathers day...
Even the mobile phone coverage was out, or overloaded for most of the day...
