Ummmm, if he was a poofter he wouldn;t want to get chicks anyway.... :dontknow:

I guess it's hard for anyone to think that their vote counts for anything, when you have two people out there pushing almost the exact same crap, playing the same games, changing their minds constantly, trying to please everyone... Kind of hard to give a damn about it really.

Too true Joel... I'm totally disgusted in both "parties"... and really pissed off that "john & jannette citizen" seem prepared to put up with it... or even worse ... believe it.... :upset:

I put a big portion of blame on the crap sensationalist media we have. They dumb everything down and sensationalize the slightest thing, You see people being asked questions out in the street, "so what are important issues for you in this election?"

"Uummmm, I reckon the boat people, man you have to stop the boats..."

Really people with no idea about the issue, just repeating parrot fashion the rubbish they hear from the media. There are something like 15 million refugees in the world. In the first 2.5 years this government have been in power there were something like 4500 boat people. We took in a total of 13 thousand odd refugees. but at the same time had over 50 thousand visa over stayers, mainly from china UK and USA.

Yep... and of those 4500 arriving by boat.... even during the "Howard" years....

Over 99% were found to be genuine refugees....

Of the remaining 8500 refugees, which arrived by plane.... only about 80% were found to be refugees....

Our first wave of "boat people".... were Greeks & Italians, and other Europeans ... brought over after the war ... for the "Snowy" scheme...

The next wave of (truely) boat people... were the Vietnamese..... which, by bi-partisan support... we allowed due to a sense of obligation that we had been involved in a war in their homeland....

Foe some reason, during the "Howard" decade... the wave of reugees fleeing Iraq & Afganistan.... where we were involved in a war in their homelands....

Didn't seem to be meet with the same king of "moral" standpoint....

Besides the Afgans still coming... diminshing.... the bulk of those arriving are "Tamils"... from Sri Lanka.... fleeing/fearing persucution after the civil war in that country...

We take 300,000 immigrants a year.... falling below 160,000 this year....

So the "boat people" number less than 1% of our immigration intake...more people than that turn up by plane every year... without visas...

And in comparison to the total "refugee" intake worldwide.... we take less than 0.5%....

And the bullshit about "stopping the boats"... is just ludicrous.... short of sinking them.... FFS...

Almost every boat.... is intercepted.... and don't arrive on Australian mainland shores.... nearly all of them now sail... directly to Christmas Island....

As the began doing at the end of the Howard years....

The only way to "stop the boats"..... is to stop the people smugglers... from putting them on boats in the first place....

And having a regional processing centre in Indonisea, or similar... where the refugees could, and would go.... to be processed, rather than paying huge fees to get on a "boat"....

Is actually the ONLY solution... and way if stopping the people sumugglers...

P.S... On the question of "boat people" arriving on Australian shores....

It's been a problem for over 200 years...

I'm sure Bennalong stood on the steps of what is now the Opera House.... wishing there was a way of stopping the bloody "boat people" ....

For those doubters that Gillard is a puppet, she announced she is now taking control of her own campaign so we can get to meet the real Gillard :dontknow: seems she is now struggling in the unloseable election and has no faith in the string pullers, Abbott is also reported to having string pullers, the problem I see for voters now is after the election the strings will be reattached :dontknow:
I think I may stay home and pay the fine :?

Anyone watch Q and A the other night?

I was quite surprised, thought she did a pretty good job with some difficult questions. Funny, I was going right off her over the past couple of weeks, all the contrived policy stuff, it was nice to see some more unscripted straight forward talking..

I'll be looking forward to seeing how Tony does next week as well with the more off-the-cuff questions and answers

that's what we thought, she put on a good show

Our six year old daughter asked us the other day if we were voting for Julia or Tony. (being good parents we explained the bit about not voting directly for Julia or Tony, but voting for the local candidates) Then I said "Julia" and Bethany asked why. I said, "because I don't want Tony to win"
