My Ebara just died again, this time it's out of warranty... So looking for a replacement!

I've narrowed the replacement down to 3 models:

Grundfos Unilift CC5 $350
Davey Dynapond 7000 $345
Davey D15VA $220 (From eBay)

At the moment I'm leaning towards the D15VA, not only because of the cost but because of the vortex design. The ducks get in the pond from time to time and can really muck it up, so the fact it can move 20mm soft solids is an advantage.

What would people recommend? Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with any of these pumps?

Well ordered the D15 yesterday, arrived this arvo! Very happy with that. She's a little ripper, got it running now moving some of the built up fish presents...

Here's the link if anyone's looking for a pump. I priced it @ $395 locally, so quite a bargain. I checked the serials, it's the latest model.

My plumber mate just gave me a big ol' Davey pump, he said "we use this in the mines where you have to move a lot of water/mud and they can't fail - can't go wrong with a Davey" he says ....
mine isn't submersible but it'll move poo !

Ahh, sounds like a transfer pump, I was checking them out too! It's just that I'm trying to keep the workings of the system hidden to appease the minister of war and finance.

Hi Kenour, I am using the Grundfos CC5. I started my 1st system Nov 09 and the 2nd in Mar 10. I have had no trouble and they flow rate is good within the head limitations of the units. I am using about 10 mins on, 25 mins off 24/7. The 2nd system uses a mixed size clayball media and some odd shape or small size balls migrated into the FT. these closed the inlet to several impellor vanes reducing the output. Pop the SS screen off with a screwdriver and remove these and the pump is 100% again. Trout are my favourites so far, SPs are prone to white fungus it seems, what to do to keep the system flying Dec- Apr after the trout are harvested???

Silver Perch can be prone to "white spot"... when the water temperatures drop.... usually only if your water quality is marginal... and/or you're overstocked...

As Rupe says, I have also only had white spot on SP's during winter when water quality is not so good. Usually they are fine after the first year of a systems operation.

I have a permanent contingent of goldfish that keep things ticking over, they're quite big suckers.

I'm going to see how my trout go in summer, I'm going to try and keep some going until next year. I have a couple of things going for me, my tank is deep and in contact with the ground, it's under shade cloth, and I'm in Ballarat So we'll see!
