Expensive though, and no better specs than the "tornados" that OBO runs... in fact for half the price, you can twice the flow...

Wow that is a stupidly high priced pump!!

I run 5 of these currently:

http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/catalogue_products.php?prodID=4237

$450 for a 16000 lph pump at 160 watts current draw :D I have proven these numbers with a watt meter also. Actually draws slightly less under load (around 145 watts)

I just consider a $500 pump that moves up to 6000 lph to be high priced :D

My pump will move twice that, and with the addition of a float has the same properties as your pump :notworthy:

for under $500 Each.

Just upgraded the Aquapro AP3000 to a Laguna Powerjet Max-Flo 3500, which came in at $140 from Age of Aquariums. Should suit my purposes nicely! Only heard postive things about these pumps ...

Well, my Ebara just died for the second time. It hasn't actually stopped working, but it started tripping the RCD on it's circuit today. I checked all the connections to make sure they were dry etc, and all good. I then did an isolation test to make sure nothing else was tripping it, and that was fine. Plug the Ebara in, the power won't stay on longer than a minute or so. So I've just got the air pump on for now until I get a replacement.

Not sure what to get though, thinking I'll go for a vortex pump instead? The flow rate for the Ebara seemed to suit my purposes, 4 grow beds and a 4000ltr-ish tank. I'll have a read through this thread, as it's been a few years since I've had to look at pumps, what would people recommend as a replacement for the Ebara?

Yeah very frustrating the Ebara farce... We now have about 30-40 of them sitting here busted, and they won't take them back...

We've been using the pondmax 8000L pumps and they have been very reliable. We've also started using grundfos pumps and they seem pretty good so far, a bit more expensive, but they have a good name.

Seriously? I remember reading about this when it died last time, they're still giving you grief!

I did look at a grundfos last time the Ebara died come to think of it, and yeah it was about $150 more expensive for the same kind of pump. http://www.pumpwarehouse.com.au/prod281.htm I'm pretty sure this is the one I was looking at, about $100 more than I remember it being! I'm thinking of getting a vortex pump though, they chew a bit more juice from what I remember, but can handle bigger solids (than the 10mm limit of the Ebara anyway). I should really just make more of an effort to keep the ducks off the pond, they deposit at awful lot of 'presents'...

Might just get a $100 dirty water vortex pump from B for now, and see if they'll replace the Ebara again, then get a grundfos when the Ebara dies out of warranty.

Oh yeah, the W.A. rep won't take any of our pumps back. Well he will take them, but then tell us that in every situation it is not a warranty claim because of............... And you can insert any one of about 4 or 5 different reasons in there...

Just checked out a Grundfos Unilift CC5. Specs are very similar to the Ebara, was $350 up here. Might have to order it before my fish start floating!

Well I ended up getting the Laguna Max Flo 6000 which should move around 4000L at my maximum 1m head. Looks like a nice pump

just a quick warning, headsup or what ever you want to call it
i have discovered on my pump the outer insulation on the power cable cracked ( badly ) right next to the body of the pump luckliy the wire insluation is still good or i would be one dead dude

i have of course removed said pump its a sensen 4500, i had noticed previously that the cable was gettin stiff but didn't think it would crack

Cheers
Pete
