you are not missing the point, Chelle, you have got it exactly right
the water will bounce over the tiles, and will alternatively gain speed and be stopped off, gain speed, stopped off, gain...
just like in a series of normal cascades or rapids
the difference is that in the high gain passive aerator, not one, but both sides of the water are exposed to air by the open channels of the double sided polycarbonate plates
and that each step causes a venturi effect (this time a real one) by the speed changes that occur, which will effectively suck air into the water stream through the channels of the double sided polycarbonate plates

I can not really explain the constriction (limited by language) as apparently there is none, but there must be one which is proven by the speed changes
Wikipedia gives a comparable example: Large cities where wind is forced between buildings
you might reply that between two buildings there is a restriction
but even with one building and strong winds you will see leaves and pieces of paper being sucked off the ground high into the air
that is because of the venturi effect caused by speed changes of the medium

on this point Wikipedia contradicts itself by adding the word "incompressible" in the basic description: the venturi effect exists in gases as well as in liquids
the speed change liberates energy, this energy creates a vacuum, this vacuum can be used to suck in another medium

hope this explanation was not too messy

flow forms do the same: exposing lots of water surface to air, but only on one side and without venturi effect (where mixing with air is concerned)
the venturi effect is limited to water/water

in both systems the energy is tapped from the kinetic energy of water falling down caused by gravity which originates from your pump that has pumped water to a height, thus transforming electrical energy into potential energy

a side effect is changing the laminar flow into a turbulent one so more water molecules are exposed to air

my design will be more efficient versus the footprint, and easier to build,
but I'm sure your sculptures will be far more pleasant to look at

if you consider using them, maybe design a pretty one and make a mould so you can cast them in series as you will need more of them
might even sell some to your customers later on

Had a play with Google Sketch-up. Its not a bad program. I had to resubmit plans to council 3 years after they said I didn't need them and could not find the auto cad files. So quickly did them up in sketch-up. Once my system is finished I'll have to have a go at drawing it. might look a little messy.

A new bathroom for the shop. 3 years ago when I asked if I needed a development application to build inside a shed they gave me a 3 month run around before saying "I don't think you need to submit a Dev app". And I replied"So the first question I asked you guys 3 months ago, you ment to say NO.

Anyway 3 years after that and they have decided we need a toilet and plans. Funny thing is I built the rest of the place without one. They seem like nice guys anyway and its not too much of a pain. And they wanted me to add the location of a 20ft container that I have in the yard. Apparently this is going to be the norm if you want to put a shipping container in your yard it will have to go through local council. Something about the neighbors have been complaining about people putting these things in there yards.

They got banned in Kambalda a few years ago - too many kiwi's living in them

I think thats why I like 160 acres to live on WHAT NEIGHBOURS???? About the Sketchup components I'm trryyyinnngggg to put my components into sketchup, It's tricker than my lasercutting cad program, guess I'm just not used to sketchup yet It does look like a good program though......I will continue to do battle with the mouse........

Could not go past buying the container. Its a working 20f freezer(-18) container with floor to ceiling stainless steel inside. For a $1000 inc gst

Not as easy to go from CAD to sketch up but if you start with the 2D drawings and then once you get the feel move on to the 3d stuff.

moving from CAD to Sketchup is like moving from ski to snowboard:
you have to (temporarily) forget most of what you've learned

it is very frustrating when something that you have adapted to so that it has become an automatism
refuses to work in the new game

but after a few hours of adaptation, when you get the knack of it and it starts to get fun, you can re-use most of your old skills

then experience with CAD regains it's value

I discovered a function in Sketchup that i dont think is in the documentation

holding down the mousewheel button (ie click it down not roll it) gets you the "look around from different angles tool" . and you can do it at anytime without changing the tool you have selected

Hmmmm, where is it... I have barrels split both ways and an IBC, just need to find it.. Had troubles uploading it to the 3D warehouse.

I just made it and haven't loaded it as I didn't have the dimensions.
So not accurate
