Hello everyone,
I'm not sure how you use this forum so I thought I would take it carefully to start.
I have an ABYA EDU system up for sale.
Yes I know they cost $20K but thats no where near what I am selling it for.
I was going to put it immediately onto ebay but then I thought I should just check around first and see who maybe interested and how much you would be prepared to pay.
I have pictures and manuals, instructions for assembly and the lot. Guess this would be quite a few Mb so didnt know how much I can put into an advert.

Would appreciate someone to advise me here.
If I'm out of line trying to sell it in this forum please also advise and it will only go on ebay.

Just how successful is that system at producing yabbies....

What sort of quantity were you able to produce ... from how many "cells"....

And... why are you selling it...

Back to the subject.
They are as successful as you want them to be.
The EDU tank is relatively simple to manage including the feeding.
The breeding and grow out does take your time to ensure you have compatible mates (i.e. dont want to eat each other), and checking for pregnancy, then the feeding of the juveniles until they are ready to be moved to the EDU tank. And even then until they reach a certain size it is a bit fiddly.
If you want the easy way out with good success then you simply go and raid a farmers dam.
If you cut out the breeding and just use it as a fattening for market then you should be good to supply (this is only a guess cause I was breeding) 1000-2000 yabbies per year of 300gr size.
We had at our peak (and this was only limited by the breeding as we didn't go to a dam) 500 in our EDU tank. We were not exactly running at full capacity all year because of the cost for heating 5000+ litres of water. I live in Albury and winter is -2 to 5 degrees overnight and very often like this winter not getting into dble digits during the day. Made the cost about prohibitive.
Its not like you go and spend thousands of dollars to insulate your garage either !.

I bought the system 6 years ago with the intention of using it as a trial before moving to a so called commercial system which they never perfected. Soon lost interest after that. As a hobby or small income earner, great ! .... but certainly not going to support wife and kids. Ours has been unoperational now for 3 years but I fired it all up before cleaning and drying it all up so its ready to go.

The real point here is that what I am selling is worth thousands of dollars individually (forget the original $20K, I have mentally written that off) and I'm only looking to get some fair and reasonable offers. It maybe that no one wants to do the breeding in which case I would sell the two 1000 litre tanks, bio units and pump separately and well no one would want the rest of the breeding system so that would be scrapped. The 3000 litre tank , pump & bio units should be of interest to someone .... guess I just wait and see.

As a complete system I'm am asking $2000. This includes all put together instructions, photos, EDU manuals, enough yabby cells to have 500 maturing yabbies, a couple hundred juevenilles, some reference material on Yabbies etc etc. It is the full kit and then some. I believe the cost for transport (fits onto one pallet) is about $300-500 depending on where you live.
I am not hard and fast about selling it as a whole. It could be sold by splitting up the grow out unit and the breeding unit depends what you want to do.

EDU CheckList

• 1 3000 litre EDU tank with glass window (100W)
• 1 x UNO 72 lpm magnetic drive sealess pump
• 325 new EDU capsules
• 184 cleaned used capsules
• 32 x 7 Verticle holders = 448 EDU capsule holders
• 1 x 2000w thermostat controlled heater
• 1 x Juvenile feeding tray
• 1 x Juvenille feeding stand
• 3 x stainless steel rods
• 20 x large bottles
• 1 x aluminum stand for biofilter
• 1 x biofilter

• All pieces for stands and for plumbing are individually coded and documented so fit together should be simple.

Wanted to make an apology for a mistake I made with this post. Although we did have SOME 300gr yabbies which we grew in our own special size container the std EDu tube will only take a yabby about 50-70gm which is quite the normal table size. So you could grow out 1000-2000 50-70gr yabbies not 300 Gr. My apologies.

I am interested in the complete system. You're a bit out of my way but I'm working on it. I just spent the day watching stainless tanks, pumps and pipework getting auctioned for peanuts (not to mention coolrooms and racking) and I'm in the mood.

Oh, in addition it was originally sent by freight company from S.A. and that was about $350 in 2005.
It really boils down to me moving on with my life and now I need the space. Whatever I cant sell goes to recycling or the tip. You don't have to use it for yabbies in fact you can use it for whatever you like. You don't have to buy the yabby breeding section either if you dont want. If you only want the large tank,pump and filters that go with it, no prob.

Hi EDU sounds great but I am over yabbies due to a disaster or 2 and due to location is easier to get them from dams for a feed,
Just a suggestion, you should get someone to remove your email address from the post as a possibility you will get crawled and end up with piles of spam, best asking people to PM you

Just a couple of quick questions for you if you don't mind.
1) How many juveniles did you successfully grow out and to what size?
2) How did you feed them in those cells?
I have heard some interesting stuff about the EDU unit and also saw it at the Aquaculture Expo in NSW.

Hi Max1,
Grew a couple of hundred out to 50 gram size in the 2 yrs of operation. The juveniles are not fed in those large cells of course as they will crawl out. There are smaller bottles for them. A bit fiddly when it comes to the whole breeding & grow out to more mature sizes. Feeding for the tubes is simple. Lift out a whole dbled sided rack of tubes from big tub. Pop a food pellet or 2 into each tube and the put rack back in to big tub. Takes about 30 secs per rack of 14 when u get hang of it.
My new business kicks off in Sept so I urgently need the space in my garage. As this is a reverse auction. Asking price is now $1500.

I asume that when you put the juveniles into the cells they are large enough not to crawl out. How long does it take to grow them to 50+ grams from then on? I mean how many crops of 50 gram yabbies can you grow out per year? And also how long do these food pellets last before you have to feed them again?
