Amm: 0.25

Nitrate: 5ish (not the best colour match)

the Amm seems to sit on 0.25 while i am raising feed, then drop, then i add a little more feed and so on and so forth . .

On the plus side the iron oxide form the rusty nails will help remove arsenic from your water so that has to be good.
Thats interesting Simo.

You never stop learning!

hi gwa7

my FT cycles every 45 min, so pump is 15min on then 30 min drainage
i had alot of trouble cycling mine, and really need a bigger gb, so i will put another 500L GB on eventually

i didnt need a sump tank as the GB was above the FT, so drained straight back in. you will ned a sump tank is your GB is below your FT water level or your GB is the same or larger than your FT, as water levels will drop

if your around freo feel free to drop in and take a squiz, PM me if your interested. i found all the basic info threads, FAQs and useful information invalubale when i was setting mine up, particulary the threads by TCLYNX and the administrators (Y)

does anyone know what theses are and how to get rid of them? eggs on the strawberries, grey mouldy wierd stuff on celery (see pics)

lost 2/3 of my peas to leaf blight today, woke up and they were all wilted. I have replanted celery into quarantine as it apears that the celery is the source of all my problems :( oh well 7 weeks growing down the drain . .

FT is also very murky, has been for 2 days now. one of my air pumps got a kink in the line and stoppped pumping, thinking that could be the problem. also have added chelated iron, and sprayed with bicarb/oil/water mixture... does anyone think that could affect water quality?

todays tests are:
PH 6.6
Amm. 0.25
Nitrite : 0
Nitrate: 5
Temp: 13

Cheers,
Deflated Ben

The chelated iron will turn the water yellow/brown for a few days, did the murkyness occur before or after adding it?

well having some problems with keeping my water filtered, i feed the fish, everythign spikes, i dont feed the fish, fish die . . . so ive made myself a filter to go on uuntil i can get some money together for another GB (and find some room in the yard..
the filter is 35L in volume, with a 3000LPH pump, filled with hydroton and has some foam at either end to catch solids. it filters 600LPH, so a touch over 14000 LP Day

lost my last SP today, as someone said it became trout fodder...

plants are just starting to re-shhot after being decimated by fungus. i rekon i lost atleast 50-60% of my plants / growth, and have to start again with the snowpeas, celery and tomatoes :(

until next time....

Neat looking Bio Filter. Did you add a few handfuls of the media from the grow bed to help with colonising the bacteria in the filter?
