Here Here Snags,
I'd vote for you if you were in the poll!

Himzol you should be flattered to be in the same league as Ghandi, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama...
Perhaps you have more in common than you know?

Check out this link below if you will, it is a very interesting lecture on the subject of "prosperity without Growth" Can we have a strong economy without having to consume!
http://www.themonthly.com.au/prosperity-without
-growth-tim-jackson-2539
It is worth a listen if you have 36mins to spare. (the link seems to have been chopped up in this thread,
if it won't open go to http://www.themonthly.com.au/video
and scroll down).
Such interesting people talking about such interesting subjects.

So whose having an election party?
I love election parties as long as you invite the right people of course!

cheers
Dale

interesting test jamie....not to mention that the results stated by some of us are in the same quadrant... i was a bit further left than ghandi..

has anyone else done the test? and wish to share..

this might be indicative of the group of people we are...
slightly anarcistic... by fighting the system and being responsible for ourselves eg growing our own food....
and socialistic in being community orientated taking back from the mutinationals.....

I'm right about where the Dalai Lama is. That's ok with me.
Doesn't surprise me at all.

I would be very flattered, however I know I do not have anywher near the patiance nor the tollerence that these three men do (did).

The only thing I have in common with any of them is that the Dalai Lama, Ghandi and I all are about the same height, and would share the same barber...

Ok, I also detest violence..

Yet according to the layout most of the people they had are up the top...

Still most of the people "top right" I couldn;t give a damn about but I'd love to talk with some of those bottom left people... :)

Been watching this since it's inception and it seems the gloss is wearing of Julia's shiney hair, only one vote between the big two now. Sad thing is even without the gloss she will get in because of where the Greens put their preferences.

It is about time the Greens stood on their own and refused to feed votes to either of the majors, they share nothing in common with a true green party.

Watched an interesting interview with Bob Brown (leader of the greens) earlier in the week on lateline, he said "don't take any notice of the how to vote preference cards vote however you want to, put your preferences your way". He said over and over again that people should ignore the preference cards, and even when he was asked "but won't labour be upset, you've done a deal with them, but now your telling people to ignore the preferences?" Once again, he said, I don't agree with the preference deals, but we have to do it by law.

Found this online too.
Quote:
LYNDAL CURTIS: Why do a deal with the Labor Party though when the Labor Party has delayed its commitment to introducing an emissions trading scheme and when it did want to introduce one, it was a scheme you thought was no good.

BOB BROWN: A very fine question. That why, well a deal is done because there is a requirement in the Senate by law, a law passed by the big parties, that there must be preference discussions and there must be a preference card handed in to the electoral office a week and a half out from the elections. I think it is wrong.

BRENDAN TREMBATH: Dr Brown says he would like to see the law removed.

Bob tried to have the whole preferences law removed a few years ago but it was stopped by the major parties, he said that he will try again soon...

I reckon you gave the same answer as me Boris... :)

Unfortunately in the current system there has to be a preferential system in the senate, as seats are decided on percentages of the total vote that are received.

but its easy to bypass, just dont be a lazy shit, and fill in all the boxes below the line, these only come into play if you want to put a 1 above the line.

Preference deals mean nothing at all in the lower house, except whats printed on the "how to vote cards". Simple, dont take one, and vote how you want, by law to have your vote counted you have to fill in every box, so you automagically assign your own preferences.
