Celery loves AP. Bananas also- being the largest growing herbaceous perennial. Red mustard, mints and my cucumber sage is now 3 years old.

The only herb I've grown in my system is or was mint. This plant exploded killing everything else in the bed. The root ball took over the entire bed. So, next spring I plan to incorporate a series of 5 gallon buckets one for each herb we grow. These will be a part of the system and at the same time connected to the ebb & flow of the system. What do you think? I want to control the growth of the herbs, but do all herbs grow at this rate?

Thanks for your time, Gil Jones

I went to Dutch (bato) buckets and planter sized GB's [on a side line] for this reason for a few plants/veg types.
Only way to keep mint under control. However I found that while the AP was OK the planters I turned in to mini-wicking beds was even better for thyme, coriander and most other herbs in terms of rate of growth.

growth varies with systems but mint seems to be a much quicker expander than others.
(I have grown thyme, oregano, basil, thai basil and others and none are as bad a mint once it gets going.)

Place your Mint in a small container alone, I've had it one of my grow beds and the root system runs like crazy. The roots will dominate the grow bed in every way.

I just got my first bed planted with Lemon Balm, Oregano, chives, garlic chives, and some sage cuttings. The chives, garlic chives, and oregano plants are taking off like mad in this cool weather. Every single herb looks like they are doing well.
