Ah, something we can agree on!

It's been 20+ years and they (Japan) still haven't forced the banks to recognize the bad debt. Bad debt, which was based on, ahem, overvalued real estate...

As for my profession... I was a paralegal working for a (semi-retired) lawyer that mainly dealt in real estate. I kept trying to explain what was going to happen to the US RE & stock market but he was an optimist & not much of a numbers/history guy. He lost so much money in '08 that he closed his office & took a job as a loan officer at a bank. I couldn't gloat at all because he was suffering (and a great guy to boot)!

So now I do bookkeeping (for another lawyer) 1 day a week. The rest of the time I'm a mom taking care of family, cows, sheep, dogs, chickens, veggies, & now fish! And I'm way too well read about the GFC!

As for taxing the crap out of an industry... They should do it to real estate, which I'm sort of dependent on via my current employer and via my husband who is a plumber. Instead, they've done just the opposite - give tax credits! This is merely kicking they can a little further down the road to a worse end.

It hasn't worked that way in the US. Amazing how little has changed (except the rest of the world does seem to like Obama way better than W).

Same horse different jockey, but at least she does not come over as an arrogant pratt or a religious zealot so I recon they have got a good chance at the next election now.

Gillard has stated that he budget will be back in surplus by 2013 this cannot be done without the miners. Does she believe that she can do a voluntary deal with them?

wow,
our elected prime minister doesnt get to serve out his full term cause he's pushed aside by union string-pullers

I didnt think he was doing such a bad job ( but I dont have newspapers opinions under my control and the ability to brainwash masses with it )
probably would have voted for her, if I'd been given the choice, thats how democracy is supposed to work isnt it ?

now the greens definitely get my vote

benevolent dictatorships looking like a better way to go every bloody time the pollies open their mouthes now

can I be the first one to Vote Joel as supreme King of Australia ?

Heard a comment today that Australia's political system is darker than China's. At least in China you know who is in power.

Regardless of events today... the government had to resolve the RSPT within the next fews weeks in order to get back on track and get it's "message" out...

And I believe a "compromise" would have been forthcoming in that regard...

The question was... with Julia's appointment... whether or not the "miners" might have decided to back track and take her on...

I think she has deflected that by announcing a withdrawl of governement ads.. and request that the mining council do likewise... and that the table is cleared and all parties should enter into negotiations...

Likewise.. by "clearing the table".... Gillard can now take on the grinning mousekateer (Abbott)... and reveal him for the nasty moron he really is ...

And you reckon Rudd was a religious zealot... have a closer look at Abbott... that man is positively scary in that regard....

Yep, I agree with you... I know think that the governement has more than a fair chance of re-election... indeed I think Abbott will reveal himself for what he really is over the next few months... and the polls will reflect that in the next few months...
