I like to call this one:

Meditating Flowers

The centers of each flower remind me of a little person meditating wearing a robe that you would see on a monk of some sort :)

This one is called:

Flight of the Bumblebee... I know ... so original :)

This one is a tribute to the insect that most people fear more than they should respect due to all the tireless work they perform so that we may enjoy the fruits of their labor.

You know in Melbourne you can book yourself on to a night photography tour and learn how to take great pics of the tourist attractions - ferris wheel, casino, night lights. This gives you the opportunity to learn how to use your own camera. It has been on my to do list for 2 years now, I will make it a must do for next year when it is time to vist MIFGS Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show as long as I can get my holidays approved.

Go, team! Nice pic of a favorite predator. Not as cute as ladybugs, but they sure get the job done!

There are other modes  wondered what all them settings were for, I suppose the car has more gears as well, but "D" works best and it's the easiest 8)

I have a terrible habit of not using manuals... so at first Auto mode was fun but it becomes annoying when you really start to get absorbed into the scene and picture taking and the camera isn't focusing on the exact object you want in focus... I find this happening a lot when using a macro lens to emulate the way I observe things up close. Usually I kind of brute force my way through the options until the pattern emerges but I must say that the DSLRs are not as friendly to that learning technique as the other thin digital camera that I keep in my back pocket. Sporadically using the Nikon D40 that I got my hands on the past few weeks has enlightened me as to why there are "professional photographers". I think the best technique for beginners is to take as many pictures as possible of your "subject" in order to compensate for the newbie mistakes and then you can weed out the nice pics from those that are out of focus or too bright/dark etc... I'm still so clueless as to what all those options are in the menu but I just keep playing around with settings until I get something that I like. So Faye you should really just take your camera out and have fun trying to recreate how your eyes/brain perceives the world in 1 static picture. Of course its not the same but the process can be intriguing imho. It's like marrying the abstract/analog with the technical/digital.

I literally took about 1 GB worth of pics of this particular shot and eventually I realized I didn't even know what I wanted out of it and I was just making sure I had enough random pics of various parts in/out of focus so that I could select my favorite when I transferred them to my computer and even then I sometimes find myself cropping the picture to enhance what I want to see.

Image

Even after I found the picture that I liked the most I started thinking about why I was so obsessed with the "image" and I realized that it had nothing to do with trying to be skillful and lucky, but had everything to do with me trying to visually capture how delicious I thought these damn berries tasted!!!!! So I guess you'll just have to find that balance between what your camera can/cannot do and what you are trying to get out of it and if you're already there then it's all good; just sit back and enjoy the scenery.
