Jaymie wants to find some cheap coconut coir fibre for it but we are having trouble finding cheap, unfertilized coir

THat is why I ask... I was strongly advised against using coconut coir - the shop owner was concerened that it stays TOO wet for a continious flow system... and also enquired as to wether it would be PH balanced and be low in salt/s..., as that can be a problem!

I just dont want Jaymie to go purchase stuff which could be 'harmful' to here system!,...
THe store owner had not used the it in a system like this before, but advised that from his experience that it would NOT be his medium of choice - but then again the proof of the pudding is in the tasteing!

I won't be eating the coconut fibre! have enough fibre in my diet already!
We have just been reading a bit on the coco coir, they reckon it will absorb 8-9 times its weight in water. On of the mobs that is ffloggging it on ebay is a hydropon. supplier.

that was part of the argument put across to me today - it stays VERY wet for a LONG time... roots could/would perhaps beging to rot! I add the stuff to my potting mix to help retain water for longer, so I understood what he was on about...

okay, the hydro shop owner said try perlite way before coco... I have used gravel and it worked very well... and expanded clay balls would work well too (as well as be MUCH lighter than gravel!)

Isn't muzza using it?

I'd say its fine for F&D as its always being "re-wet" by oxygenated water.

But you have a valid point for cont. flow
