Wife bought a big bag of corianda seeds for grinding into spice for cooking. I grab a small handfull and threw it into the growbed. It is now growing everywhere like a weed. I will need to use a few seeds only next time. Very easy to grow in Victoria. Could be a climate thing in QLDS but i doubt it because it is very common herb in south eastern asian countries.

It wont grow in my system either. I am in Sydney and it just bolts to seed or dies every time I put it in.

Yeah might be moon phase perhaps... You do have to think that it can't be all about weather as naturboy pointes out, look at the places where it's commonly used...

Why would you want to plant that stuff anyway.... :)

We have a saying here in Houston - "You can never have too much cilantro growing"
And it's not because of eating it (though I usually do snack on a branch every visit to the yard). I love for it to bolt to flowers and seed.
Why?
Those umbrella-like clusters of flowers are extremely inviting to all kinds of beneficials. Also good are dill, carrots, parsley and fennel. Two straight years of these really puts your yard on the map for various predators that pester aphids, miniscule wasps that prey on corn worms etc... And a pest of my pest is my friend.
I have the second year's plants now. Look at a cluster of flowers up close and you see some kind of tiny critter enjoying almost each one. Shake a branch and get a living cloud!
That's my own organic army.

Even if I hated the taste of cilantro (and there are some who inherit genetics that make it "taste like soap") it would still be something I sow right in the yard and garden and allow to flower and re-seed itself yearly.

So should I be planting the seed on the 17th / 18th of this month, what part of the moon phase is that.
Just scooped another 5 dead fish out this monning :( 42 lost Trout yesterday. Nitrite spike was the cause.

We planted some seeds in the ground and they grew so quickly you could almost see them growing.
In the GB's they didn't even germinate, and some transplants from dirt to raft and NFT browned very quickly and then basically died.
Wonder why it doesn't seem to like AP?
Also found the Tilapia absolutely love it, we have far too much in the dirt, will try to dry some and see if the fish still eat it.

Yep we have the same one here at the shop, only been in for a few months but has been growing fairly well. Looks like there's heaps of seed, in fact it's pretty much been covered in the small flower/seed head bits the whole time we've had it. It is VERY much like coriander.. I just took someone out there today and said here, have a smell of this, he was very surprised at how coriander it was...

Interesting, wonder what the nutrient (or whatever) difference is.
Ao+ (also from Thailand) said he has had real problems growing it in the dirt, ours went crazy in the dirt with just daily watering.
A fussy plant, so it would seem.

I agree, but Thai people love it so much they have it with everything.
If they ate Cornflakes, they'd put it on that :)
