P.s I love flood and Syphon, i use it in my system. it never overflows because i have it fill slow enough that if the syphon doesn't kick in it just flows down the pipe without syphoning.

I haven't used IBC's though, when the syphon is running on them can it draw the water the 800-900mm required to drain the system to nearly the bottom of the IBC?

I plan to use IBC for a couple of Mango trees.

The mango tree got smashed by the winter frost. We had 4 days in a row of frozen water. It has come back this summer and is still growing.

I only drain the IBC's to half.

Over 700 Trout dead, all Silver Perch and Bream are fine. I think I may have around 50 Trout left. I can only catch a couple when having a swish around the tank.

When I checked the system on Saturday morning, there was only a couple of fish floating dead, the rest where gasping at the surface. I immediately did a water test and got the above readings. Went straight to Bunnings, got 25kg of salt, added that, and watched the rest of the fish die. I was probably 2 hours late with the salt. The ammonia was not the problem, it was the nitrite. Added an extra pump, and 4 extra aerators too.

5 days later the nitrite is still off the scale. Ammonia was all gone within a few hours.

I pushed a new system a bit too hard and this is the result. I did a water test before all this happened and it was fine so I upped the feed, but did not test again for a few days. Obviously the system had only had a mini cycle, the nitrite - nitrate bacteria had not fully established. A week of very cold weather may have had an impact as well.

I did not think I would be the first one with a Tout disaster this year. Sorry Gavin (Troutman), didnt look after them well this year

I feel for you OBO, thats a disaster on a big scale. Didnt you have any salt in the system at all??
Dont worry, you definately are not the first one to lose trout this year its just that many folk like to keep quiet about things like that, including me.

Ouch,
Have you added more growbeds than last photo? ~90 fish per IBC depending on how many silvers you still have?
