Here are a couple of shots I thought you may like

The First 2 are of a male Empire Gudgeon [no good to eat but very pretty just the same]



Although not suitable for human consumption [Unless you were real hungry ] these guys bring top dollar in the Aquarium scene and could well be used as part of a self functioning BYAP



and these are Cyphotilapia gibberosa "Kipili", I was going to show them in my DIY egg tumbler but the female held them long enough for them to be free swimming at birth [approx 21 days]there are 27 fish in total and ALL have perfect bars.



It must be remembered that these little guys are only 2 days out of the females protective mouth



As to their suitability for BYAP, well that depends on several factors, not the least of which is water temp and pH.

Nice VM, I also like natives and grow Pygmy Perch also inedible as they only grow about 65mm in length but are now well sort after in the Aussie Market here is a bad pic of one, I think I have around 600 now

You have 2 species there that require different pH levels.

Lake Tanganyika is quite Alkaline where the Australian Natives are more Neutal to Acidic.

I used to keep Frontosa (Cichlid from Tanganyika) which required a pH of around 8. Dont know how plants would go with that
