Wondering how your system is going after using the egg whites, hopefully clear water with no fish deaths

I blend 2 or 3 eggs into my water (1000ltr) whenever it gets cloudy (about 1/month) and it clears up fine - fish are all fine.

Hi LV and Ajajaj
Eggscellent to hear
I only use approx 1 egg per 1000 litres but I use the whole egg shell and all (crushed of course) as the yabbies love them!
I'm sure just adding the 2 or 3 egg whites only per 1000lts would be just about be the right formula if you are after water clarity
Well better get cracking, so shell be off!

probably work well with a sock filter on the GB outlet while you wash the rock - at least the egg might floc it so the clay doesn't block the filter as fast

My tank and system has only been running for 2.5 weeks but has been cloudy due to muck from the "washed" pebbles I used in the grow beds.
Put one egg white into the 500L tank yesterday evening and this morning I can see the tank bottom and happy fish.
Brilliant

How does one apply the egg whites?

Do you just crack the egg, separate the yolk and drop the whites in?
Do you whip the whites into a light foam / meringue?
Do you mix the whites with a little water to "break" them and drop them in?

I just put the egg white in a bucket and added some water and swished it around, then tipped it in

Probably not... shade your tank, aerate vigourously.. and increase your pumping if you can...

Nothing to lose trying!

I was watching a cooking show the otherday where the chef needed to clarify a broth, amongst other ingedients, lots of egg whites were used. I was thinking about this thread at the time and wondered if seperating the eggs would be benificial.

Hi DV
As previously mentioned in this thread it is the egg whites (albumen) that does the clarifying. The reason that I use the shell and yolks is for yabbie feed.
