Howdy all, spent the last couple days lookin over the forum, some great ideas out there..

I got involved in a bit of a roundabout way, as I was looking at getting into raising rabbits for meat.. as i looked at more info, i got even more intrigued by the idea, but then i came across a guy that was doing chicken, rabbits, worms and an aquaponic setup that he called barrel ponics..his name is Travis Hughey, and you're probably familiar with his free setup online;

Long term i'd like to do a greenhouse, but that's down the road a ways... but ya gotta start somewhere!

Gotta work this weekend, but hoping to at least get my 3 barrels (and its snowing today!)

Hi Keith,

Where about in Ohio are you? I was born in Findlay and lived there until moving to England in 6th grade. After that I went to Kent State and spent many weekends up in Cleveland. I then moved to Houston, but my parents and sister are in Cincinatti (sister Ohio side, and parent KY side). So I get up there ever year or so. I sure do miss the seasons up there!

Like you, I was looking for something else when I came accross AP. I cannot even remember what it was now. So in a nutshell, since visiting this site I have added rabbits and two IBCs to my backyard and am trying to get approval for a greenhouse. The third system even has some pre-planning going. There is TONS of information here about all kinds of self sustaining stuff, not just AP. I think it is fair to say this site has changed my life quite a bit. The people here are very knowledgeable and can help with just about any problem you come up against....but most of all they are just really great people!

When you get a chance, post some pictures of your proposed site etc...

Welcome to the forums!
Mark

I'm in a little town called Fairport Harbor, right on Lake Erie, and the Grand River. I'm going to start with goldfish to get a system up and running, but already started looking for yellow perch fingerlings

I'll get some shots of the backyard this weekend

I have some family in Conneaut also. Not to far from you. When I was real young we spent a lot of time at the lake - swimming and fishing off the break wall of the harbor. Oh how I miss lake erie perch. We have blue gill down here which are similar in texture and flavor, but perch IMO are better. I have not had any in years. I'll have to read up and see if I could get any to grow out during winter here.

Welcome to the madness!

Seems there is something about the midwest that inspires long-distance travel. *grin*. My wife and I are from the Cincinnati area and my right-hand man is from near there as well.

Anyway, I look forward to your trials with perch and goldfish. Good luck!

Welcome Keith!

My wife and I were born and raised in Lancaster; most of our family is there. I have a college friend from Conneaut too.

Welcome, Keith.

I started with a BP system and have met/talked with Travis Hughey. Nice guy and excellent starter system!!

Lots of good info on this site... in fact, you rarely have to search elsewhere for AP/gardening/aquaculture answers.

Welcome aboard.
