OK. Here's a view of the house AP people will appreciate:

I'm not thrilled with the placement of the panels but my husband & I have reached a stalemate. I'd like them mounted over the door. They are tied to the deck so they can't blow away. Some used to be on a cool tracker but the mount snapped a few years ago.

The windmill - top right of house - doesn't do anything for us. We just don't get enough wind. We do have a good spot for a microhydro set up but haven't gotten around to it.

Very nice place. I think I, too, would vote for over the door as an awning to keep out summer sun and give more shelter from rain, but the easy access you get from having them on the ground is nice as well.

+1 on over door shade. I would like to get some just to keep the sun off the south roof of our house. The shade they could provide would be worth more power savings then they could even generate for me.

The overhang of the house was designed to block much of the summer sun. Non-summer sun is welcome in Vermont.

I think my husband's issues have to do with wanting a freestanding structure and being worried about ice falling off the roof and crashing into the panels.

As I said, the house is R36 on 6 sides. Behind the wood siding are 2 layers of celotex foam board - 1 layer 90° to the other and taped (as part of a vapor barrier). So nailing into it is a no-no. Same with the roof. The deck is made of Trex so it's not a great support for building free standing overhang.

As I said - stalemate.

Still waiting on my panels to be delivered :( I called and got the voice mail of the sales guy that handled my order, so I emailed him to find out the status. Should have been delived 2 weeks ago but I got a call 4 days before I left for vacation and I told them not to ship if it couldn't get to my house the friday before I left as no one would be there to receive them. I guess he held off but I heard no more. :-x

Does anyone have their air and water pumps run by small solar system? If so, has it been successful?.
I was talking to a bloke at BatteryWorld who says he can rig up a system for about $400! It would save worrying
about power failure.!
Any advice?

Hey Seamonkey, what are your power requirements? Watts per hour? How many days of backup would you want?

Got a call from a trucking company, my solar panels will arrive at my home between 11:am and 4:pm. They said they would call 30 minutes ahead of time... Well at least I'm fixing to finally get them!
