Thanks for the post guys!!! I was just on a mega down yesturday! :upset:
Ahhhh but the promise of a new day! Ok so i know a guy that fits bathrooms ( i am thinking old bath = 'fishtank') my granddad has a pond (i am thinking 'pump') uhmm old drawers??? i would have never thought of that!!! as for large grow beds i am sure if i put my mind to it i can find something!!
this may not be the right place to ask this but i was wondering..........I was planning on having the aquaponic unit out side and no greenhouse. If i put my very large pet goldfish in an old bathtub outside will it freeze in the winter? Would i need to bring the goldfish inside for winter? It does get cold here sometimes and i have seen large koi ponds freeze over and they have had way more water than a bathtub full. :dontknow:

The problem would be if it froze over solidly to full depth. Goldfish dont freeze too well aparently. There are anti freeze devices you can buy.

Yeah, this last winter, my parent's Koi puddle froze over. This puddle is 2.5 metres deep in the middle and about 20 metres in diameter. The only part left unfrozen was where the pool heater was located, but that is not designed to heat the whole pool, just leave an air space for foul air to escape. It was about a 50cm sized hole.

Somehow I don't think lowly bathtubs would have escaped this last winter unfrozen.

Edit: Oh, and the pool only froze to the depth of about 1 metre. The koi hid down the bottom somewhere, and then when the place warmed up a bit, the greedy lot came back for the munchies.
