2.7 kilo bream! Gee that's good. Lucky to see them over a kilo these days :(

Already had 10 fish... all around 1kg... that day....

And repeated that the next day...

There's an annual bream run into the river... at a certain time of the year...

Funny story...
On a northern exposure trip to Coral bay... some years back :D
First day out...
Skipper caught the first fish, monster Spanish Mac... :notworthy:
In his jubilation gyrating n stuff( mostly tossing off) the fish took a big flip and came down to the deck with a crash :D
...attached was the skipper by his little finger to the treble, one of 3 on the lure...They were BIG, nasty and ugly
As I was engaged on another issue I was a little further from the scene, the giant fish still giving a few flaps here and there... :funny1:
...the first mate was by now green as the ocean we were in... :pukeleft: :pukeright:
I managed to push him out the way, jump on the still alive giant of a fish with priest in one hand and body over the fish stopping the flailing specimen with a blow to the head...
Reaching for the pliers and nip off the whole treble which by now had fully embedded itself into and out of the dear skippers finger and into another :thumbleft: :thumbright: .( one thumb left & little finger)

I became a surgeon that day as we were 40 NM from anywhere... :dontknow: the skippers boat was not well maintained :laughing3: and the first aid box was rusty  not my boat...
I must say and have said this before ... it couldn't have happend to a better person...
Pushing the barb through had to be better than pulling it out... :headbang: then snip the barb and remove from the other finger :shifty: .

It was a quiet day for him and first mate... but I fished on and bagged the biggest Red Emp I had ever seen....
End of story

Those spanish are nasty to be sure! I've heard the odd story of live coral trout fisherman being helicoptered to the mainland due to landing big spanish on their small dory's.

Oooooooowwwwwwwwwww............

I hate it when hooks do that... Those sort of stories make me cringe..

Last night my mate hit me on the arm with his lure as he was casting out, soo lucky a hook didn't connect with my arm as he was putting his force behind it for a big cast..

The big Spanish went to 25kg but most were around 18 kg.

I sure do miss my fishing. Especially around the top end. I guess that's why I've resorted to growing them.

An 8 kg red is a top fish in any one's book. I'm jealous.

The fish I'm most interested in...... is coral trout. When I can grow these things in the back yard, I'll die a happy man.

I don't care what anyone else says.....coral trout flesh is the best this planet has to offer.

yeah, we went fishing on a charter 70 miles off Dampier about 10 years ago. Should have left heather oin the beach, she spent the whole time ralphing in time with the swell :support: and wasted her $150 lol

We caught amazing fish, and one bloke landed a massice mak, well over a metre long. Red emperor are amazing to catch and eat. we ate like kings for the following week.

Are you human?: Take me to ya leader

My girls so love fishing... My ex is a city girl and though her daughters would take after her :funny1: I grew up on the bayou and always had a boat. When my girls were little I would get up 3:30-4:00am to drive to launch. And run the boat to the fishing location and be there and the water settled for 1st light. When I woke up those little girls would almost scare me when I opened my eyes and they were standing there looking at me with their fishing poles in their hands! When I was coming up a fishing trip had a little playmate with a couple pb&J's, and jug of iced water. With my girls much more like a picknic! Chips, soda's sandwiches, snacks sunscreen/bugscreen sunglasses, hats and beach towels. Old days had a scorching hot aluminum boat, carpeted bass boat for the girls. If I take them to a good spot I usually don't get to fish much as I am steady baiting hooks and netting fish. I actually enjoy watching them more than fishing!

EB I totally agree fishing is very relaxing and part of our hunting instinct. Although not able to fish much in the Alice apart from my own backyard (AP) I was a keen diver in my younger days and also loved to wet a handline especially when I lived in the Kimberlies which was fishing and mudcrab heaven.
