I have used a few washing machine pumps in both ap and hydro ,they are good if you only have a head of about a metre .I have used one on the worm bed for six years and it is still going .you are battling to block them up and if you did they would be easy to clean. This is how I connected this one to the tank. And there is usually a good supply at the rubbish tip.

I have banannas in Perth too, and they fruit alittle in summer, they are in the dirt though. I mainly grow them for the young leaves to wrap fish in for cooking the fruit is an occasional bonus

Bananas grow fine in Perth and fruit well too - they do like to be kept warm in winter so some straw around their base and a windbreak around the plant made of hessian usually keeps them pretty happy. I would figure that AP would keep the roots warmer in winter so if your banana is being ap'd you could get away without using the straw. Just a guess not having grown my bananas in ap (yet).

Dwarf everything for me - peach, nectarine, apple and mango and full size banana too...eventually :geek:

The shortest banana that I know of is cavandish and they also seem to have the largest hand of bananas on them .
This is the first year that mine have been on AP and they seem to be doing much better than they were on hydro.

If you get a big bunch of bananas and don't want them all ripe at the same time you can spread them out for a while like this.If you put a apple in a bag and tie it on say ten bananas on the bunch they will be ripe in three days. You can pick them and do the same thing but your friends will be impressed more if they ripen on the bush.Just take the bag off before they arrive.
