Ivan, it's still not clear but I think you thought I was taking the piss out of lunar planting ? Wasn't my intention and I do intend to give it a go once I start using seeds.

CD Beat me to it: It was a joke. He planted seedlings and said "Yeh that lunar seed planting really works wonders!"....

Well I seem to have sorta started something, I know Ivan is passionate about Lunar planting but my comment wasn't about that and CD had a joke about the size of his plants being related to lunar planting, and wasn't taking the piss out of the same, I know CD is going to try it, I can be guilty of taking the piss as even though I have tried it I am yet to see a difference, my mate the GWH is a believer and uses this method all the time, but people that plant by the moon and have great results should try not planting by not planting by the moon and see if any difference. I have planted several dirt veggie garden plants in rows of lunar and non lunar cycles and have seen no difference at harvest :dontknow:

I remember a few years ago whilst in Morawa, some people of the greener class tried stuffing sheep and cow manure inside cow and sheep horns burying them in trenches on a full moon with the horns facing east west as this was meant to produce a super fertilizer, a few others around WA were trying the same, CSBP from memory had an ad on TV along these lines that actually took the piss out of the theory (rightfully so), the weeks of preparing and months of waiting and the use of the final product had absolutely no value on the trialled crop, tests also proved the manure had lost all of it's nutrient value and was useless, I think this sort of behavior leads people to take the piss out of lunar theories and hippies like above don't help the cause.

My opinion is if it works for you then do it, Beer works for me and I do it no matter what the moon cycle (and that's a joke, not about drinking beer) but everyone is allowed an opinion :-P

the easiest way to end up with an infestation of aphids is to group things all nice and neat.

I will take the piss out of that though....

Looks like you better call Faye, Jaymie and Rupe cause it looks like they've done it all wrong all this time;

This morning's readings;

Amm: 0.5
NO2: 1.0
NO3: 10-20
pH: 7.6

The nitrite reading was that unfortunate shade that you're not sure whether it's 1.0 or 5.0 - hopefully the former. SPs not interested in feeding this morning but went great guns last night.

Well as long as you have salted to at least 1ppt, it should be fine... and yes the nitrite reading is a tough one to determine.... just keep a watch on the ammonia as you feed the fishes... don't want it to go any higher...

True - thanks Ivan.

Shite - just as I was typing the above you've made me realise my water is now only salted to 0.5ppt. Once the sumps got plumbed in the overall system jumps from the 3500L in the FT to 6000L - I only salted the 3500L. OK, that'll be the first thing I do when I get home.

If all is running ok hold off on the salt till you need it you will find salting with a shock [jumping from .05 to 3 is better than a constant level]

That's true when applied to treatment for parasites... or perhaps even finrot...

But with Nitrites=1 or above, then I think you should salt to 1ppt regardless...
